I’ve seen a lot of opinions and that is fine. But the facts are that the cross and whistle happened almost exactly at the same time and the ref had already grabbed the wistle after the corner failed. People might not like it but there was 0 wrongdoing here. But I definetely understand the controversy.

Not the same. Here, the referee blew as the player was running away from goal. Then he turned on a dime and crossed the ball. Very different situation. The ref had already allowed the attack to continue well into extra time of extra time, so he was in the right to blow the whistle.

I think there should be an unspoken rule (if there's not already) that the final whistle should only be blown in middle of the pitch. If they're actively attacking on either final 3rd of the pitch, play should continue.

Not sure about the added time on added time but you cannot blow the final whistle in that situation. Hadn't even finished blowing the 3rd whistle for fulltime although the first whistle is fulltime, as it is just tradition (1 for starting both halves, 2 for half time and 3 for fulltime).

Which law in the game said that. The ref can blow and anytime or phrase after the regulation time of 90 minutes for full time or 45 minutes for half time. It does matter where the ball is in what phrase.. The ref can end the game. Football fans always questioning laws of the game, even the ones they know. Final whistle is final whistle

Number 6 hears the whistle blow right when the cross is taken and doesnt attempt to defend the cross, and starts to slowly walk off the pitch before the goal is scored because he knows the game is over. You can't allow a goal once you blow the whistle and cause the defenders to stop playing.

Because he was under pressure from the Valencia player who screamed at him to blow the whistle. He did so even though the ball was mid-air in a clear attacking situation. The VAR took about 2 to 3 minutes to check a schwalbe from the Valencia player which meant that Madrid should've gotten the time to finish the attack by Brahim towards Bellingham. In the end, you even see the Valencia defender screaming because he witnessed the goal and thought they lost the game.

When I did my ref course they mentioned the case in the World Cup of a ref blowing the whistle after a corner had been taken and goal scored. They told us that you should let the phase of play finish. As it was a corner and didn’t really get cleared but came out of the box the other side of the pitch, in possession of the attacking team. I’d of considered this to be the same phase of play as the corner and let it play out before blowing up.

Why is this controversial. Nearly two minutes over added time, brings up his whistle to blow just as the play is dying as the winger is running with his back to goal to the corner, referee has every right to call it there. It's unfortunate that the winger crosses it just as the ref blows the whistle, but if real madrid wanted to win they probably should've scored earlier. The defense can also claim they stopped playing as the whistle was blown, so really this is just madridistas crying.

1. He told players that the corner was the last play of the game. 2. There is no rule that he has to wait until the ball is cleared or out of the final third. He has no actually duty to do that. What he did is totally legal. Maybe not fair, but also referees aren’t perfect. We forget that Vinicius scored with his bicep against Almería. Sometimes it goes your way and other times it doesn’t.

In situations like this, when only few seconds left, the referee has two choices: 1) should blow the whistle before the ball is put in play to avoid any confusion. 2) Allow few extra seconds until the initial action is completed. 3) The worst possible decision is to wait until the ball is kicked in the air, and then blow the whistle....!!!...Dumb decision by the referee no matter how you cut it.

As a self-anointed body-language "expert", I look at señor Gil Manzano's expression right after blowing the whistle and I see defiance, I am 90% convinced that he's happy/proud of it, the implication being this is just a reflection of referees in the Liga being _mucho cabreados_ (not happy) with Real Madrid for the infamous weekly Real Madrid TV segment reviewing *refereeing errors* .
