This is the new Tamiya Comical Avante RC Buggy and it’s different from the Tamiya Comical kits we’ve seen before. This Tamiya RC car kit is the first 4WD in the Comical Buggy line which is of course fitting for the Avante name, but it is most certainly going to bump up the fun factor of the drive. The Comical Avante sits on the new chassis variant the GF-01CB. This is Tamiya’s 4wd driveline chassis with oil damped shocks, independent suspension, top mount battery for fun wheelie action and signature spring loaded front bumper. Beyond the new prepainted Avante body, it also has new Bubble Step Block tires! Once you build this kit up on the bench, you’re guaranteed to have a ton of fun driving it! Our review captures all the details and of course features plenty of action too!

I miss the old days of rc. I used to have so many Tamiya cars. Started with the Hornet and moved on to bigger and better things like a Blackfoot with two wheels per axle. The Lunch Box, Wild One... So many good times with friends. I miss those days truly.

The comical 2wd buggies have a major advantage over us with 1/12 wheely trucks at VONATS when we race the wheely class. They turn a lot tighter and better than old Lunchboxes and Midnight Pumpkins. That class is probably the most fun racing of the whole event. lol

These comical buggies r definitely fun, I have the grasshopper n its fun, id like to get this Avante n put it on the shelf next to my 10th scale Avante. This ones 4wd thats very cool

I’m gonna get one. Would be cool to have a racing class for this. Either way I’d be laughing driving this on the track with serious racers and their high end kits.

RCDriver_Online been driving my comical avante for a few days now. Good fun. I had an unused reedy radon 17t lying around combined with a nimh battery, and hobbywing esc, and it is much faster than your stock lipo setup. Wheelies at will. Not out of control though. Esc is mounted on the back part of the front shock tower. Receiver is mounted on the side next to the low profile servo. Everything is as low as possible. To prevent wheelies I ordered the 20t pinion and shorty lipo that I’ll place are far forward as possible. No part of the battery will be directly over the rear diff. Hopefully this will have the same results as the mid motor 2wd race buggies today. If all works out I’m removing the wheelie bar.

The GF-01 chassis is a lot of fun :) Greg you need a JIS screwdriver not phillips. JIS fits perfect, phillips might slip.

The speed controller can handle a 21 turn brushed... I run a 13.5 brushless on a TBLE02S in a topforce with no fan without issue. and a 10.5t brushless in an egress with a fan haven’t given that too much yet due to forced isolation so don’t know if it will over heat but it’s a Tamiya motor recommended and I won’t over gear it...!

Will any 48p gears work or is there something different with tamiya gears? Mine just shipped out today! So excited like a little kid. Already ordered avid ball bearings. Got a spare low profile ko propo rsx servo that used to steer an xray tc. The low servo might help a bit from traction rolling. Got a reedy radon 17t brushed motor that was supposed to go in a top force, but never got the kit.

can you tell me the different characteristics between comical grasshopper and avante ? one is rear drive and avante is four wheel drive , am i right ? is there any other structure different between these two comical ? or any other comical series you recommend ? thanks !!!

How did you get the finish for the driver and Helmet etc please, Is it brush or spray? Got one coming and need the paints but don't know what is best and cost effective? Ty

They are two totally different RC cars. The Defender is fun for driving around trails and looking like a real truck. The Avante is more of an fun off-roading buggy, go fast, blast around dirt, go off of jumps.

I've really developed a passion for the Tamiya "Train O' Gears" type chassis'. I've been building custom bodies to go on various models (mostly the G6-01"Konghead" and G6-01TR "Dynahead" but boy I want one of these now! Brad Bozarth Tamiya does not list the ESC as waterproof. The motor can handle it and you have to supply the rest of the electronics.

By "a good screwdriver" you mean a JIS screw driver. Those aren't phillips head screws. I think a lot of people don't realize that when they are building the kits.

Ian Oliver I use the Tamiya screwdriver set, they are absolutely perfect!!!
