The first car is a W154 from 1938/39. It has a supercharged three-litre V12 which, at its most developed, pumped over 460 bhp and was red-lined at 8,000 rpm. The car weighed under 1,000 kg. The 300SLR, behind the single-seater, also has a three-litre engine, but it's a straight eight and naturally-aspirated, producing 300+ bhp at 7,400 rpm. It weighs a bit more than 1,000 kg. Mighty machines, both of them.

Number 16 is a W165, which was built for and won the 1939 Tripoli GP. Supercharged 1.5 litre V8.

That 300SLR growl is so terrifying like a preditor it draws you towards this machine to be swallowed. A Ferrari V12 is more like a opera tenor who is stepped on his toes.
