Great video again thank you! I've read about AAT tasks but your explanation made me realise it's not that hard. Only using Condor but still a great help!

Yip, just go as fast you as can! And make sure you're over time, not under so you're not penalised. Simple!

@PureGlide

@@TheSoaringChannel Well, fastest usually is who finishes first! Although there are handicaps also, and keep in mind the start gate opens, you have 3 hours to start (in NZ at least). Only the Grand Prix races have a start line and whoever crosses the finish line first wins...

Cool now I understand not every task is a point to point triangle square etc as I understood years ago. So much easier with modern avionics. Better than the old map on the knee and a pencil plus calculator 🤣

Thanks for the video. i'm a Glider instructor in Brazil and i had so much difficulty to explain what an AAT task are to my studants. Actualy i have this early finish problems in the national in Luiz Eduardo Magalhães (Bahia). think i need more training in this kind of task. Do you have any sugestions of how can i practice? BTW my club dose not usually have a great meteorological condition im most of the year.
@PureGlide
@PureGlide 3 жыл бұрын
Hi yeah try setting some small AAT tasks for practice. Just the act of setting them based on the days weather will help you learn how they work. They don’t have to be big tasks. You could try flying some in Condor too, and use an oudie or similar as you fly.

Hi Tim, thanks for the explanation. I'm planing to participate first time at a cometition and try to understand AATs. Who ist the distance for speed calculation measured? Espetially would it help to go beond a turn area in case i can fly fast? How are the points for distance and speed calculated? Excuse me for raisin so many questions - but I didn't find this info in my research.

So its not who gets back the soonest after the 2:5 hr limit, its who has the fastest average speed at the end?

What happens if you nick the first turnpoints , then go deep and hang out at the last turnpoint, burning up time. Then run to finish at the optimal time?
@PureGlide
@PureGlide 5 ай бұрын
Yeah you can do that! As long as: - Your speed is as fast as possible. - you don't come home early. The risk of waiting to the last turnpoint is the weather might not be good enough to use it all. Then you end up coming home early... so worth going into earlier circles if you can, so there's less chance of being caught out

What about AAT with maximum time limit ? Are they still common ?
@PureGlide
@PureGlide 3 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of an AAT with a MAX time limit. Only minimum time.
@geirskjo
@geirskjo 3 жыл бұрын
you said you where scored to the center of the circle. How can you then maximize distance? Would not everybodys distance be the same?
@PureGlide
@PureGlide 3 жыл бұрын
That's only the start and finish circles. Not the turn-point circles. Good to clarify, thanks!

Yes but what is AAT short for? Whole video on subject with defining the subject. 😳 Without understanding the terrain well enough, are you restricted flying through the circle or are measured only to the back? Last question, how do the scorers, score? Straight line distances to outer points over time or is it more sophisticated?

It's in the title thumbnail and video description! :P Yes I should have covered how the scoring works, it's straight lines to the furthest points in the turnpoints (not including the start and finish circles if used). And yes it's as simple as straight line distance over time. And time will be the minimum or greater.

@@PureGlide Highest point gets whoever has the highest average speed? So you would win if you fly 3h at MC2 and the second flies MC1 but finishes after 2h on point (same Planetype)?
