I stumbled across a site that showed the steps of Puritan Medidation. No one ever showed me how before. The Bible says meditate day and night. That was relatively vague but now they'd show me how and it's working❤

Are there any Puritan churches here in USA ? My favorite college course in Catholic seminary was actually New England church history. I have deep appreciation for Jonathan Edwards.

The focus of the believer is on "the Righteousness of Christ alone (plus nothing)." When out eyes are taken off Jesus and put on anything else our "worship" becomes a "religious matrix" and therefore "Legalism."

Why doesn’t he address the elephant in the room issue about all the slander that surrounds the Puritans and they’re supposed involvement with the Salem witch trials and persecution of other people. It’s so hard to find anything on that. Can anybody refer me somewhere?

Although I plan to watch the remainder of this tomorrow I am deeply troubled by much of what I have heard herein. Let's just start with the incessant references to the Puritan program or Puritan theology. Is the God you claim a Puritan? Is He Reformed? Does He not specifically through His servant Paul condemn these very distinctions in 1 Corinthians 1:11-17 that you yourselves uphold? What is the difference between aligning myself with a person and a religious denomination? Either way, I am found to be promoting something that is sectarian in nature- something that divides the people of God. Is this not why Paul the apostle asked this question, "Has Christ been divided?" A true faithful preacher of Christ does not proclaim the truth of Jesus under the banner of a name sincere men may have devised and invented in their own imaginations. This clearly amounts to having a divided affection. Furthermore, it is plain a few verses back in verse 10 that all Christians are to agree and that there be no divisions among them and that they be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment. How is this even remotely possible when men are describing groups of believers in direct contrast to what this verse states: now I exhort you brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. No man can name what doesn't belong to Him, namely the ekklesia of God. He can however, name that which he has invented and endorses, a religious organization or theology that has nothing to do with either Jesus nor New Testament Christianity.

If i might ask you too, are the puritan not biblical, not preaching the right gospel!? If not why you objected?

I have learned the Puritans were a divisive group. God is no Puritan. God is no Christian. I am not even certain god was the god of Israel. All this comes upon learning the bible is not inspired or inerrant. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nsBjis5krpuXXas.html

This is a strawman objection. To be reformed is to be biblical. Reformed simply means to reflect the teaching of Scripture. You yourself believe your comment to be biblical while it is not. Division comes because people do not submit to Scripture. The call isn't for people to overlook but to be one mind (agree on Scripture).

@@thomaspfeil7084 To you Thomas, "reformed" may equate to biblical but I couldn't find that definition in a dictionary. I did however find this: "relating to the chiefly Calvanist Protestant churches formed in various countries" (which again proves one of my points) The proof of what "reformed" has come to mean over time is problematic for many reasons. For example, if I asked what "church" means to an average Joe what would they reply? They would no doubt under most circumstances say that is a place where people go to hear about or worship God etc. This is what "church" actually is, however Jesus never used the word church- nor is that word ever used in Scripture despite today's modern translations. It is clearly a misinterpretation and misrepresentation of the word ekklesia that Jesus used and today- it is used to further the religious intentions of men who build their own kingdoms upon this earth. Now if you really think I'm falsely refuting one or more of Joel's arguments well ok, but take a stab at one of the nine I also posted four years ago in another comment herein that he spoke. None of those arguments are based upon the Scriptures. And by the way friend, the next time you attempt to falsely accuse me of something I write in a comment, at least attempt to address what I actually said and supported with Scripture. Somehow those Scriptures you claim to so dearly cherish were entirely missing from your argument in response to what I said.

So God is a spirit, and the God-being is three persons, therefore the Father is spirit, the Son is spirit, and the Holy Spirit is spirit. 2ndly, if God is a spirit then he doesn’t have a brain, because that is body. Revelation 14 states that John heard the sound of harpists playing their harps before the throne of God. So far none of what I have written is against scripture. Apparently God doesn’t mind the sound or harps in worship. But then again how can he hear for he has no ear drums, or brain to decipher the sounds that John could hear and decipher.

Without question there are things to be gleaned from this message but unfortunately the numerous appeals to men and there quotes are a very real distraction. Seeing that God has given us everything we need as Christians for life and godliness these quotes only serve to take ones eyes off of Jesus and His Word and direct them toward men and what they themselves have established. Here are just a few of the troubling quotes in this message: 1. "unacceptable to the Puritan way of thinking" 2. The statement "as Puritans" instead of as Christians 3. "puritan program" 4. "preaching in a service" (one obviously does not preach to family members but only to unbelievers) 5. "style of Puritan preaching" 6. "famished when one comes to a service" (God's people fellowship in order to give not to receive) If they are cultivating an abiding relationship with Christ they ought to be filled and that to overflowing when they gather. 7. "puritan convictions" 8. Sabbath? (I thought Jesus was our Sabbath in the New Testament 9. All of this (what appears to be based upon Puritan theology) must be done in Spirit and truth? Isn't this backwards. Christians don't start or base their theology upon Puritan anything but upon the Word of God alone) Here is my one and only question to anyone who will listen. How is this not idolatry to place so much emphasis upon men and upon what they have done and said over the years. Men, some of whom in the name of Puritanism and in the name of Christ were even known to be murderers. Somehow, I find that despite their apparent helpful contributions to the faith, many of their actions (which prove the spirit that drove them) were clearly opposed to the God they claimed to know. This is not in the least insignificant, a history that cannot and should not ever be forgotten lest their grandchildren repeat their many sins.

This was one of many sessions dealing with the regulative principle. Dr. Beeke was given the task of presenting the Puritan view of worship, thus the many quotes from the Puritans. We should learn from those brothers that came before us. They separated themselves from idolatrous forms of worship, and there zeal for the glory of God led to clear positions of true worship that we should learn from.

Believers need proper biblical preaching constantly to keep fed and vigorous in our faith and love toward the Lord, just as much as unbelievers need to hear preaching in order to come to faith. Praise God for the example of high honor and exhalation of God's word we have in the Puritans!
