CBS 8 first told you in February that some trains passing through the Encinitas Station violated the train horn rule. That story helped spark a movement.
The community effort to stop loud train horns through Encinitas is on track to pass its first hurdle in City Hall.
“Your story raised a lot more awareness,” said Pete Albanese. Pete lives a mile from the tracks and his watch monitors his sleep. He showed us a printout with 3 noticeable spikes in the middle of the night. “You can see when you've been woken up and it correlates to when the trains come through.”

Then when more people die at the crossings, they'll complain about the train not alerting you of its presence. Also, "if you don't like train horns, don't move near the tracks." Also, also, I live near the Norfolk Southern Cement Secondary. I can only hear the horn if the doors and windows of my house are open. Maybe try closing your windows?

Exactly I live right next to a Northfolk southern line in Northern Indiana that I believe connects Chicago and New York and as you know if you keep your windows closed its fine. And even with them open over time you just get used to it. They chose their house knowing it was near tracks. This is on them

Here's an idea: When we go one full year with out A SINGLE PERSON, COUNTRY WIDE, disregarding crossing signals, driving around gates, trespassing, or running in front of trains, then we can talk about quiet zones. Until then, the bad actors ruin it for everyone and the horns continue.

They should not have quiet zones. You should know what you signed up for when you decided to buy a place next to a busy railroad. Same goes for people complaining about planes flying over their house. The tracks and the airport were there first. Are people really that stupid?

Dude, I live about a block away from the trolley tracks here in Barrio Logan. The trolley doesn't bother me, but the freight train at night does wake me up at times. But I don't complain. I find the noise therapeutic, lol. These people knew what they were signing up for when they possibly saw the tracks when purchasing their homes...

It's not like the railroad wasn't there first. These people want to make the crossings less safe to compensate for their own errors; horns are a vital railroad safety measure.

Bruh you chose to live next to an active railroad. Maybe look at the area you are planning to move into before making the final decision. I understand that I like trains and other vehicles however a quiet zone increases the danger with incidents occurring in Orange County nearly every week where the quiet zone is active.

These people are just idiots! The railroad has been in San Diego since the late 1800's long before the road systems and homes were even a thought. The railroad is NOT a fault and is NOT obligated to have to stop running trains and sounding their horns through these communities. People chose to live right next to the railroad knowing very well that the railroad was there first. I guess when people start getting struck and killed by the trains will everyone in that community finally realize that forbidding the use of the train horns was a stupid and dangerous idea. I live near a railroad crossing that's known as a "quiet zone" meaning it's a railroad crossing where the trains are not allowed to sound their horns to warn people when they are approaching. That crossing has now seen four deaths since the "quiet zone" rule was first implemented and went into effect but that's somehow the railroad's fault though right? Yeah I don't think so. If you don't like the noise from the trains than why not just move and live somewhere else where you won't have this problem. Plus remember that today trains are alot more quieter and make much less noise and pollution than trains did 50 years ago and longer. The railroad is NOT to blame but people are.

The train horn is for people’s safety, why stop it if you don’t want to hear it? Makes it sound like you only care for yourselves and no other communities.

2:11 Hey, here’s a solution: don’t buy a house there. It’s that simple. You don’t want train horns waking you up at night, don’t buy a house right next to the train station. I mean, you just can’t reason with these people.

Densely populated area, trains go 80MPH through town; which would obliterate anything in its path. Potential fatalities could be devestating, especially at night time. Just give them the quiet zone, we'll see what happens.
