Not everything is made of a smooth gradient - most textures and materials can be painted very differently on your miniatures. Whether it's chipping of warhammer space marine armor or shiny glass on on your D&D chemist, all materials require planning to make them stand out.
Amazing miniatures painted for this video can be found here:
/ cobramode
myminifactory.com/users/cobra...
In this tutorial, we are gonna look at how to approach painting different textures and materials. I specifically introduce some general principles to all textures on your miniatures, but I go more in depth with glass, cloth, wood, fur, chipping and leather. Obviously this was not enough to cover all possible textures that can be painted on your miniatures, but these are widely used by many artists. Keep in mind, that there is not a single approach to paint them and this is just my own simplified take on the matter. Let me know if you want more painting guides for more textures and materials!

I’ve been watching KZfaq videos to improve my painting skills for several years and have made good progress but this single video is a treasure trove. It’s like you somehow packed all the other hundreds of videos nice watched into one quick and simple to follow video. It’s amazing. Thank you for spending the time to put it all together. Just wow!! I love how you deconstruct some of these techniques like edge highlighting being just a controlled drybrushing. That really demystify the whole process by making it **your** way of doing things. It makes it more approachable and sells the idea that there's not ONE right way to paint miniatures. Does that make sense? Anyway, great video, as always, man!

I personaly don't like to use it when painting the reflections, I feel that it makes it look like there are two different reflection at the same time (painted one and the actual one), which kinda looks strange. However it's quicker to do.
