This is one of those things that Baldur's Gate 3 has in common with Disco Elysium -- these subtle changes and niche lines, snippets of dialogue that only a tiny fraction of players will see, but that make you feel like the world is truly *noticing* you and remarking on your actions. It used to be that kind of content was discouraged, in the sense that you're "wasting" limited resources on something that most players won't encounter in their playthrough. But in 2023, when we've all got access to KZfaq and Twitch, it's one of the best ways to make a game feel both alive and loved: that exact feeling Pat described, of knowing that a writer anticipated your choices and made something bespoke just for you.
@purplereimu97019 ай бұрын
If you kill the goblin leaders, then go to the tieflings and kill them all, the party will still take place, with almost no one. That's... not very good, but it is a very peculiar situation.

Outer Wilds is probably the greatest example of the meta-game described at the end of this video. It, quite literally, is designed for you to test boundaries. It is a true exploration game that encourages taking your time and pushing what you think is or isn't possible.

There's that one part where, depending on what you chose before, you really get a chance to take a look at yourself and make some tough choices about what you're going to do next... IYKYK.
@beefpelican9 ай бұрын
I’m not sure I agree here. Outer Wilds is all about exploration, but it’s about exploration so that you can find the single solution to a very large very good puzzle. The paths Pat walked have more of a feel of special secrets that only someone who made the same choices would ever know. It’s about beating the game and then realizing there are so many mutually exclusive choices that you have to dive back in. Outer Wilds is a fantastic game, but it scratches a different itch.

this game is so FULL of stuff its insane. I find something new every time i start a new character and its crazy to find how many different ways i can solve problems while still basically playing the same kind of good hearted person which is really nice since i cant bear being mean in these kinds of games. Even with that limitation the came is still fresh and different for every one of my characters. Excellent video pat. This made me think about how lonely it would feel to have an AI video game. Regardless of all the arguments about whether or not AI art is “real art,” one big reason I play video games (or read books, or watch movies...) is to hear the thoughts and stories of real people. People I know are out there, who WANTED me to hear their voice. AI doesn’t care whether I care about what they have to say. People do. And I want to connect with PEOPLE through art. That all being said, I’m actually not anti-AI. I think AI art can potentially be made with humanity, and I think it can incorporate the thoughts and feelings of real people. But if profit and production are the driving reasons behind the advancement of AI, I want no part of it. Unfortunately, it’s just the hot new investment in the stock market.
