Y'know, I really like the fact Kitty was there to overhear Puss saying he regretted Santa Coloma. It like, took the trope of "overhears a conversation and gets the wrong idea and is upset" and turned it on its head for the better

But she did turn it around on him. I believe because she overheard, she lied to make him feel less bad. Namely, the "I didn't show up either". Every reactor except 1 I've seen believed it. But if she didn't show up, how would she know he didn't show up either, and why would she be so mad at him, specifically for that event? I believe she lied, to try and make him get over his regret of hurting her by basically saying 'You didn't really hurt me'.

The wolf/death is the BEST portrayal of death/the grim reaper I’ve ever seen in media honestly. It took me a second rewatch to realize what his character was meant to be. Not a hero or villain, just a grim reaper tired of people who think they’re untouchable or immortal and feeds off the fear of those who he gives a reality check. So real of him

The most hilariously terrifying line in this movie is when Death starts cursing himself after Puss shows how much he values his life. I love this movie for taking brave steps for a DreamWorks movie Portraying panic attacks realistically Having 3 villains: A sympathetic one, a fub irredeemable one, and a unstoppable force of nature Lowering the frame rate for fights And most importantly having British characters WITHOUT James Cordon
@Ben_Kimber
@Ben_Kimber Жыл бұрын
Calling Death a villain seems a bit inaccurate. A villain is a character that is evil in both actions and motivations. It is a type of antagonist. But an antagonist is not always a villain. Sometimes, an antagonist is just someone who opposes the protagonist and causes conflict within the main character, and is not necessarily evil. Death is neither good nor bad. It is a force of nature. An absolute inevitability. He hunts Puss because he didn't value any of his lives and lacks humility, but stops the hunt when he realizes that Puss has come to value his last live and gained some humility.

@Jerome Valeska kzfaq.info/get/bejne/arapppie3NPZpmQ.html It's the governor. He still has his pants down, and he does shout "save me first". Puss replies "if it's convenient" because he's a hero, he doesn't want the Governor to die but he's also not going out of his way to save him first just because he's a VIP. If it was just a random guy asking to be saved at all, then Puss replying "if it's convenient" would be out of character. He's self-absorbed, yes, but he's still a good person. Contrast that with Jack Horner, who doesn't save one of his Baker's Dozen because he's "busy".

I think someone explained it best this way- "why is Death a wolf of all things, just keep in mind this is also a fairy tale universe first and it starts to come to together- in old tales the wolf is a symbol of death, while also one antagonist that dies at the end of most fairy tales is the wolf." I feel like that is actually way more appropriate for Shrek that in that world IT IS a wolf and not just because the world has talking animals.

While in mainstream fairy tales usually this isn't the case, In a lot of folklore and mythology wolves are the bringer of death, From Odin's Wolves to the unnamed antagonists of travel stories and war reports. There's a reason the werewolf is considered the most murderous, And arguably most fearsome, Creature in literature throughout the ages. Sure the crow, ghost and skeleton have heavy association with death too, But they aren't the ones that create death, That role is reserved for the wolf (or humans themselves)

Perrito’s path being the “easiest” is probably somewhat thematic to his backstory too, even beyond just his having no wish and being an extremely optimistic person. Pocket Full of Posies - the nursery rhyme is a reference to the black death. Additionally, you have to stop and smell the roses to get through - you can’t breathe when you’re underwater and in a sock. The man-eating flowers are also a pretty good sign, imo, that Perrito knows the world can be horrible and scary. He just chooses to believe in the good things regardless. (EDIT: He probably knows his owners tried to kill him, and is coping by framing it as a funny story and focusing on what positives he can see from the situation). EDIT2: If you think about it, the solution being to just “stop and smell the roses” is also relative to enjoying life. The more you rush in search of things, the more obstacles you run into. If you just take things at your own pace, you’ll come across an easy solution to those obstacles. There’s no need to rush through Life. River of Relaxation - like the one his owners tried to drown him in. EDIT2: Again indicative of how Perrito sees no reason to rush through life. They just drift along the river and experience no issues. There is a clear destination, so it’s not aimless, but it’s also not frantic. Field of Quick and Easy Solutions - Considering how the other two can be read as dark references to his backstory, the quickest and “easiest” (it’s not easy at all but it’s easy to see it as that most of the time) solution to all problems is to die. In other words, suicide. But we never see the field, probably thematically because Perrito is so positive that those kinds of thoughts never occurred to him. EDIT2: It also ties into the idea of appreciating life. We never go into the field of quick and easy solutions because Perrito doesn’t need any. He lives and is happy living, so he doesn’t stress over finding the quickest and easiest solution possible to anything. He’s just vibing, man. Always looking for optimal solutions 100% of the time ruins the vibe.

As a separate thing to add, each character can be seen as having different things that keep them from really living. Puss - Living in fear of death, never being able to really “live” because of that fear. Kitty - Trying to go through life alone, unable to really “live” because of fear of betrayal. Goldi - Stuck in the past and on surface appearances. Unable to really “live” because she’s constantly thinking of how things should be. Jack - Greed and Selfishness. Unable to “live” because he never grows out of his obsession with material advantages, and lack of any connection to anyone else because he just doesn’t care. Of course, the one exception is Perrito, who lives mostly in the moment and actively seeks out connections with others. He doesn’t think too much about his impending death, he has no particular fixation on material things, he has no hang-ups with his past… he’s just happy. …well, Death himself is an exception, but he’s Death lol. He’s always there, and he always wins no matter what.

I dont think its that deep. The path to your wish is a representation of your mind. You internally. 4:18 ANTAGONIST. He is not the villain. Jack is the villain. Wolf drives the plot and the protagonist's actions (antagonist). Jack is evil (villain), but doesn't drive the story in any meaningful way. Most movies combine the roles of villain and antagonist to help the audience root against them. They don't need to do that in this case, as everyone in the audience can personally relate to the fear of death. Thus, the Big Bad Wolf can be portrayed as a morally neutral character, even a principled one, while still remaining the antagonist. He loses his role as the antagonist when Puss no longer lets his fear of death control him, but Wolf himself is just as scary as ever.

I feel like Death can be an antag OR a villain. Goldie is more of an antag than Death is. But Death was actually acting out of his _own_ desires. Even the plot calls him out for "cheating" by trying to kill Puss before it's his rightful time to die. And he only tries to kill him because he felt insulted. He also took sadistic pleasure in causing Puss trauma and fear, taking his sweet time to mess with him on _purpose_ , until he got mad at himself for taking too long because Puss changed as a person. Death genuinely wanted Puss dead, just because he had his feelings hurt. He's even got a weird vendetta/grudge against cats as a species just because they have get 9 lives. Death is questionable. While he has the moral sense to let Puss live, and he ONLY cared about Puss and no one else, it can't be denied his actions were for selfish reasons. It wasn't Puss' time to die, but Death let himself get bothered by Puss' antics and ended up wanting to kill him off early anyway. Death lacked patience and self control, he "played with his food". He enjoyed Puss' anxiety and struggling with no remorse, and the only reason he let him live was because Puss gave him no more reason to take his life. It wouldn't be satisfying for Death to kill him knowing Puss changed.

I am not sure but I think Death's "angry spanish" moment is "why the hell did I have to play with my food?" I dont get why people are calling him a Villain, he just has a job to do. if I had to ferry people to the afterlife, making sure their final journey isnt a lonely one, and I never got so much as a thank you? @@danielkiran8174 Well, it's debatable. He didn't go after Puss ahead of time just because he wanted to make him suffer. He literally just got fed up with him because all he did was waste his lives doing stupid, careless things, which Death could not handle watching any longer. And he _did_ want Puss to appreciate his life and understand his mortality all along, which is the reason he spared him in the end. He had no humiliating defeat, Death CHOSE to back down and Puss accepted he'd never defeat him for good, but didn't have to die just yet.

I understand why Goldie wants a "proper family." Baby Bear constantly rides her arse about being just a human orphan girl, so of course she would feel she doesn't fit in with them, and she has to learn that she's accepted and loved, even by Baby Bear, who at one point even said, "she's *not* my sister." That would be tough to come back from, especially if you already know you aren't related to start with.

I saw this movie in full for the first time last night and honestly, the panic attacks were done so well. The way Dreamworks were able to portray the heart thumping and the overwhelming fear made me so glad to see that I'm not alone in my panic attacks, and the simplicity of the help Puss received. I know when I have panic attacks the best way someone can help is lean against me and give me a bit of a hug, so I was overjoyed (as sad and scary as the moment was) to see how they portrayed. Been waiting for this one, yeah 🎉! So many things I want to say about this movie but for now: Might be my favourite animated movie of 2022 (of course there’s Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio to consider soooo idk) As a character who initially looked to be the comic relief annoying sidekick, Perrito was lowkey the MVP of the movie I’m curious as to when people realise who the wolf actually is. My mum knew it immediately when he appeared, I only started to figure it out when he put the coins on his eyes in that one scene, and for some reason my dad completely missed it even after the cave scene 😂

I was so worried they would end that panic attack scene with an attempt at humor. Like perrito trying to get puss to rub his stomach or something. That would have ruined it. But no they played it exactly how it really is. How a therapy dog actually helps you. It is a scene that relates to so many people, and that is far more important than any kind of cheap laugh.
@blackwhiteartistry733
@blackwhiteartistry733 Жыл бұрын
There's more than that though. When Perrito said he's a "therapy dog", my initial thought was... well, the normal type of therapy dog. But the movie uses the other meaning. "Therapy dog" in the context of this movie also means a dog that is a therapist, and that's exactly what we see Perrito doing. Multiple times throughout the movie, he comes out with these pieces of wisdom or insight that might be similar to what a therapist would say, and I think it's really neat.

I must say that Puss in Boots 2 did such a great job explaining anxiety. When I saw Puss having a panic attack, I felt sad for him because I know how it feels. Your heart’s racing, you’re running out of breath, you can’t feel your body, and everything is just so painful! But then of course help is on the way. I know it may sound crazy…but there’s also another film that depicts anxiety very well in PAW Patrol: The Movie. Chase had a fair share of his anxiety of Adventure City. So, when they had to go there to stop Mayor Humdinger’s madness, when there was a Humdinger Hyperloop train coaster made and the passengers were trapped on there, Chase tried to save them, but realizing it was way too high, that’s when they depicted a panic attack VERY well! I’m not gonna lie, I love the movie and I felt very bad for Chase when he had that panic attack. Normally you’d think it would be a dog basically cowering in fear, but when you get reality distortion, sounds fading and a heartbeat speeding up frantically, that’s when Chase has that panic attack. It’s also kinda funny when you think about it, a movie based on a Nick Jr show does as better as Puss at panic attacks than something that’s supposed to be for adults but failed (Velma)! There’s also another to name in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. In one of Rocket’s flashbacks, when he frees Lylla, the High Evolutionary blasts her dead with a blaster, Rocket is wailing over this, and Floor begins having a panic attack while yelling “ROCKET, TEEFS, FLOOR, GO NOW!!!” over and over again. That broke my heart. As somebody who sometimes has panic attacks, it’s safe to say Velma lost!
