Puss encounters Death again and a fierce duel erupts between the two. However, Death begrudgingly decides to spare Puss after the latter boldly stands up to him but remarks that "they will meet again" before departing.

This was one of the best final battles I’ve ever seen in an animated film. It was the ultimate decision if Puss wanted to continue wishing for more lives or if he wanted to keep living his one life

So many people here think that Puss is a god just because he can keep up with Death,and they absolutely wrong. The wolf is the embodiment of Death itself and the only reason he lost that fight was because he's holding back. And the golden rule of almost every movie is that "PROTAGONISTS ALWAYS WIN,NO MATTER THE CONSEQUENCES",but it doesn't means they're stronger than their counterpart. Puss even admitted he can never defeat Death who manifested as a wolf,but he won this round because Death spared him to live his last life to the fullest. They will meet again,and Puss knows what the outcome will be. At the end,no one can escape Death And some of the commenters here must be 3 year old kids

Absolutely. Why do people say Puss is stronger then Death? It makes no sense. Their is literal proof that Death is more powerful. So they are just factual wrong.

The apropriate rule here would be 'protagonists never lose'. Puss didn't actually "win", he was just forgiven

Death aimed at Puss because he knew he'd piss his last life away, so he just might as well claim it. Once Puss valued his final life, he wanted to see how much he actually did. And of course, Puss knows he can't win and Death will eventually take him, but in his embrace of his fate, means he now sees life as valuable.

The reason Death los the fight is because his assumptions and expectations is why he defeated himself. To kill Puss at that point would be over a lie. So he had to stand down. Death... beat Death.

I have a feeling Puss is going to sacrifice himself in one of the shrek movies, and have The wolf show up to ‘help’ fight some really big bad. But at the cost of Pus’s life.
