A comprehensive guide and tutorial on the "why" and "how" of clipping. Clipping is foundational to dojo decoration in my opinion, and I wanted to clear this up before moving on to other topics. Aside from red zones, with this you'll be able to place decorations anywhere you'd like.

A key piece of information that I was missing was that in order to perform these clipping methods, you need to *TURN OFF GRID SNAPPING* until you've successfully clipped the object. In retrospect that makes sense, but it did not occur to me for the first couple hours while I was trying to get this to work.

Funny I end up here now, just visited you guys dojo very recently. Great place. Also very useful information. I kinda started to use clipping without even knowing what it was/how it works, just by trial and error. Just try around till I got one thing to go into another. Then I moved a rock and suddenly I could not put it back anymore. Now I STILL want to shove my keyboard down someone's throat, but at least now I understand WHY it suddenly wont go back in. Really wish we could just switch clipping on/off though, would simplify so much.

Seeing the outside of that hall for the first time had me dying lol. I don’t use constrained simply because I had no idea it existed until after I had built 90% of my dojo. (MR30 with 4k hours) I always wondered how those sculptures were created. As well as how difficult it would be for me to learn constrained after spending so much time with world. Guess it’s in my best interest to learn it.

Good lord.. Ok, so I have been building in my dojo for about a year. Build some mediocre to decent rooms. Used constrained movement and rotation all the time to partially clip, but I thought there was a technical limitation on how many things the newly placed object can clip through.. I always felt it was inconsistent. Your explanation of the single collision detector and then the combination of angled clipping and using local translation to circumvent specific blocks blew my mind. I just tested it out and fixed so many old building errors. It seems so obvious in hindsight but that's just because of your super clear and concise explanation of the building system inner workings. Now all I'm thinking is how poorly DE designed it. I'm happy to hear you are helping them to improve. I have hope with how DE keeps updating this old ass game. Thanks dude.

Lmao I love seeing comments like this. The clipping vid doesn't get viewed as much compared to the basics vid, but I think that's because this video appeals more to decorators who have been at it for a while. It always gives me a chuckle to show people this and they're like "wait what." I'm happy you were able to see how to apply it, and do so in your rooms. As for the explanation, you can thank other viewers like you. When I published the first Basics video last year(you aren't going to find it unless you pull up the "outdated" playlist on my channel as the old guides are now unlisted) I only touched briefly on Parallel clipping at the time and more as a joke since I called it "witchcraft" but I got some comments telling me they didn't get how it worked. I had applied both methods in prior rooms but never thought about how it actually worked like you, and I realized I needed to explain better, it was my first guide after all, so I thought about it and came up with that explanation. I don't actually know if my explanation is 100% correct, but so far it can be applied to clip through anything so I'm hoping it is :D I actually left the QoL group earlier this month after about a year of it, so I'll no longer be giving active feedback directly to DE on dojo changes to come(see 2k special announcement vid if you're curious on why) but I'll still be here making vids to explain things I think need explanation, and pointing out stupid things that need to change ;) Don't hesitate to ask questions as you have them, or point out things you think could use an explanation or a better one if I've already tried.

@@VashCowaii Your video's did much more than just help me understand the systems and fix my old errors now. It really excites me see and find out what I will be able to build using these techniques. I just finished watching the final 4 tutorials and literally every single one taught me something new (and made me laugh). I'm not ashamed to admit that even your very first tutorial tought me a couple things. But especially this one and the Radial decorations open up so many possibilities, almost endless and only limited by the amount and scalability of assets in the game. I think your explanation is 100% spot on, I haven't run into any issues moving an object wherever I want in already fully build (and somewhat crooked) dojorooms. Like you mentioned and demonstrated once you are past that collision detector you can freely move the object through that 'new' angle until you hit the next plain - rinse repeat. Right now I'm trying to get a better feel of it by experimenting, testing to see what looks good and getting inspiration for a large and intricate build. I'll be sure to hook you up if I have any specific questions. First I'll watch all the showcases on your channel and visit other dojo's to get the creative juices flowing. Sad to hear to left QoL and why. I wish you all the best with what you are facing. I'm not sure I was suppose to reply to you again, but just wanted to let you know you got a new subsciber and admirer of your work.

The way I like to do it is by putting the object I'm trying to go through at an angle out of the way or with the object now inside. When done I reset it to it's original angle. If its a big object I sometimes grab it, put my self in its spot, and then cancel the grab leaving me inside where I can drag stuff in.
@VashCowaii
@VashCowaii 3 жыл бұрын
Ye that’s definitely a viable way. In some cases, trying to work around clipping as you gave an example for isn’t a bad way to do things, I only wanted to show methods to clip when such options as yours are not available such as bypassing the floor without going out of bounds. Also the example I showed for the titan fist, there is no placement order you could employ that would achieve that result. I considered talking about a few ways regarding placement order, but since it’s not a catch-all method, I opted to talk about what did.
@infestedsentient
@infestedsentient 3 жыл бұрын
@@VashCowaii The reason I like the angle method is to work with grid snap on, and the other one is to make quick placements with big stuff. So now you have three useful clipping methods with advance clipping, clipping with grid snap, and quick large object clipping.

I can't seem to get this to work. I'm on PS4, trying to replace a default column in the very first starting hall with "Orokin Entrati Column (small)". Great vid. Off subject. What would be your opinion on a mirror button. ie something that flips a piece to be a mirrored copy.
@VashCowaii
@VashCowaii 3 жыл бұрын
I think we'd all like it however it wouldn't be as great as you'd think. Since most decorations are NOT symmetrical, even on 1 axis, and anchor points are not in very forgiving places, the mirror function would either: A) mirror imperfectly, and things would be flipped and mismatching or B) it would need to create a form of inverted decoration, for each decoration there is. Since A would be kinda jank, B is clearly the better option, but also just not gonna happen.
@sscaryshadows3658

I think in terms of making patterns with pieces it would be invaluable also pushing pieces into walls on each side of the room would also eliminate having to break outside of rooms(although that's the first thing I do before each build) anyway get rid of billboard and put this in.
