Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday decided to transfer a record high surplus reserve of Rs 1,76,051 crore to the government after approving all the recommendations of the Bimal Jalan-led expert committee, which was constituted to decide the size of capital reserves that the central bank should hold.
Following the approval, the central board of the apex bank gave its nod to transfer a sum of Rs 1,23,414 crore of surplus for the year 2018-19 and Rs 52,637 crore of excess provisions identified as per the revised Economic Capital Framework (ECF), which was adopted at the meeting of the central bank yesterday.
Many economists have termed the move as a lifeline for the government, which is exploring options to revive economic growth amid a period of sluggish consumer demand and weak investments.
Before the RBI's announcement, the government had budgeted Rs 90,000 crore as surplus and dividend transfers from RBI for the current fiscal. However, it will now get Rs 86,000 crore more than the budgeted amount.
It is almost three times (2.7 times) more than what RBI governor Shaktikanta Das's predecessors ever managed--something that the government had been seeking desperately since Urjit Patel was at the helm.
While some opposition leaders and economic experts including Raghuram Rajan and former RBI governor Urjit Patel raised doubts over the development, the excess surplus reserve transfer gives the government a handful of options to stabilise dwindling economic growth.

but his advice that instead of taking some amount from reserve fund of RBI govt. should increase the revenue by additional taxation is not acceptable. Increasing the tax revenue by additional tax will again raise the prices of all commodities. Instead of that some reserve fund can be utilised and as a last resort additional taxes can be resorted if need be after a few years.

everything he told was correct except that how much reserve fund should be with RBI. It was decided by an expert committee which was headed by an ex-RBI governor and consisting of more financial experts. His personal opinion cannot be the deciding factor for govt. of India.

His views very very much applicable to real time and why same panel headed twice in last rejected or given concrete Statement on why RBI reserved should be released to government ( within limits ) like raghuram former RBi governor , arvind Subramanian ( advisor) and few in same panel!!!!???? Actually govt forced these panel to provide this decision..because ..it is unfortunate they have to accept because pressure ( may be)!!!

@@gshankarshanmugam naturally govt will always want their policies should be supported by the organizations under their control. Govt is responsible for running the nation and not the organizations. For any problems only govt will be blamed. The organizations under the govt should always tow the policies of the govt. There is no other way. Modi cannot run the govt according to the views of Congress or communist. Because of that only he was elected second time. Opposition may not like it but it is being accepted majority whom the opposition could not convince that the govts action is wrong.

I learn more about economics after hearing Mr Jayaranjan. This shows how when subjects are taught in Tamil is so easy for us to understand. I am learning about the India monetation policy and reading this policy. This is one of the most interesting policy done by a country and a good economic study for economists like us to see how it can wreck a growing economy. அடிமைத்தமிழன் you and public got job from private company or government company. Can you tell me any government company in profit. For example our Tamil Nadu transport is loss running. But at the same time private bus company owner every five year new bus purchasing and their cost is ticket also less if compare with government bus. Here I am not telling Omni buses.

While I was teenage I saw these you mentioned cast in banks, taluk office any office including collector also with secretary level we can see. But now I cannot see. All are we can see.
