Ahead of his arrival, Putin praised Vietnam for its “balanced” stance on its war in Ukraine and listed progress on payments, energy, and trade. The Russian leader even showed his eagerness to partner with Vietnam in energy and security. Putin's state visit to Asia comes as Moscow faces growing isolation for its military actions in Ukraine. He arrived in Hanoi from North Korea, where he and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a mutual agreement that pledges aid in the event of war.
