Shoigu was *promoted* to Secretary of the Security Council. He was a master of military logistics and his job was done; the steamroller is proof of that. This new minister is an economics wizard; he is the perfect man for the *postwar* period.

Why are some people here trying to claim Shoigu was promoted? He went from being the Defence Minister where he had executive power, to an advisory role where he gives opinions. And he's still a general in the regular Army which means he is subordinate to the current Defence Minister.

Correction, Sergei Shoigu got promoted, not "removed". He is now Chief of Security Council. This is just like with General Gerasimov, reported by the West as "demoted" when in fact it too was a promotion.

@@jeffkardosjr.3825 Chief of Security Council is not an "Adie to the President", but even if that were the case, being a Presidential Aide that's WITH the president at all times is a higher rank than a Chief of the MoD, as the President deals in ALL fields, while Shoigu would've been stuck at the MoD only.. Shoigu's horizon's (and pay) are now higher. A good idea is to check what the Russian's are reporting regarding this, not a Western source citing a Russian source, I mean actually go to like tass or rt to see what they are saying, then you can draw your own conclusion. There's always "2 sides to a story".

This was not a shakeup. Your interpretation is fake news. Shoigu was promoted to be the head of the security council which is essentially the entire military industrial complex of the Russian Federation. He will make sure Russia maintains it's technological superiority over the US military and does not suffer from the corruption we have in our military industrial complex.

Compared to Ukraine, Russia has not really "shaken up" its top leadership much. Defense ministers as civilian technocrats is not anything we have not seen before either. We have our own history with Robert McNamara, James Schlesinger, Harold Brown, etc. Sometimes you need a civilian for running your military-industrial complex.
