Russian President Vladimir Putin is putting an economist in charge of his country's military as it launches a renewed assault on Northern Ukraine. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu is out, a month after one of his longtime proteges was charged with corruption.
Putin replaced him with Andrei Belousov, a civilian who has served as Deputy Prime Minister. The move comes as Russian troops are seizing Ukrainian territory at a faster pace than at any time since the early days of the war in 2022.
