Putin’s continued aggression against Ukraine and threat to wider Europe, as well as the potential return of a Trump administration hassling the allies to increase their defence spending, is working to embolden commitment to Nato's minimum 2 per cent pledge, says former deputy secretary general of Nato Rose Gottemoeller.

I think 3% needs to be the NATO floor because all of have seen how Russia can replenish its loses in equipment and manpower but at a lower standard. What bills? Maybe you should read the actual articles that founded NATO, these countries don't pay anyone. It is how much they spend on defense vs. GDP, and it is not a requirement, it is a suggestion. Trump didn't get them to spend on defense, it was Putin's (his buddy) invasion of a sovereign nation that had the nations spend. If you want to argue, you can easily see that NATO expanded by the largest number of nations since its founding under BIDEN. Sweden and Finland have large, modern militaries. We actually BUY Swedish and Finnish weapons for our OWN military.

Im tired of my taxpaying dollars being spent in other countries for their defense when my country the US is falling apart, inflation is high healthcare is poor and unaffordable but you have NATO countries in Europe whose citizens have free healthcare and can live comfortably off their hard earned Euros. Here in America you have to work just to get by and have nothing to show for but our tax dollars are spent in Europe on their defense while they contribute little to nothing for their own defense. Those tax dollars should stay here in America and be spent on our border defense and elsewhere where it needs to be put towards. So many people from European countries come here to America and live better than we do,as a matter of fact all the foreign migrants and tourists come here and live way better than we Americans do. It's so hard to work hard and live comfortable in America. All most of us can do is work hard and be miserable.

You are mixing up "free" and "universal" healthcare. Generally speaking, in Europen countries everyone is obligated to have statuatory health insurance - which in turn reduces the overall cost per individual. Insurance contribution is a set part of your income. For example, in Germany it is about 15% of your salary and both you and your employer will pay half. You may chose to get private insurance, too - but it will cost more. Now, care to demonstrate on how taxpayer dollars are spent without having U.S. interests in mind? Plus, you may want to check on your statement regarding cost of living, since western Europe is on par or higher. And the U.S. is doing way better in terms of inflation and energy in the wake of the recent pandemic and the wars in Ukraine or Gaza and their impact on global supply chains.

A Russian missile strike has inflicted extensive damage on a Ukrainian military column in the northeast of the country, video footage of the strike was released. The attack happened near the village of Stetsovka in Sumy Region. The Iskander-M missile strike destroyed an artillery munitions storage dump and 20 Ukrainian vehicles, as well as killing up to 65 troops. The video released apparently filmed by a drone using an infrared camera. It shows a stationary column of large vehicles that are understood to have been trucks. Multiple explosions could then be seen in the area, indicating a cluster weapon strike. Later, a massive fire could be seen raging in the forest next to a crossroads following what appears to have been a secondary detonation. The video began circulating on social media on Monday.
