Putting NEW LIFE back into a worn out Chevy Silverado Motor!
Paul's brother, James, brought his truck in for some much needed shop love after having motor problems. They found a few more problems along the way, due to.......well......teenagers. At least that's what James says. ;)

200 K is when our transmission went south. I sold my truck at 350k and my brother in laws was still going at 600 k. When it was stolen. Maintenance is the name of the game. Everyone likes to rag on chevy’s but if taken Care of the run a long time. They are cheap to maintain too.

I had a 5.7 liter GMC Sierra that went to 325,000 miles on the same engine and purred like a kitten until I had to scrap it because the frame finally rusted in half. I’m sure it would have went to half a million miles if not for that.

I’m not sure if it was edited out , but I know there had to have been a cooler/refrigerator of cold beer in that rebuild . You can’t do a motor/rebuild swap in the garage with the family without some cold snacks . Glad to see it brought back to life !!

I do love to see old trucks fixed up to run for another 200,000 miles! I dislike the disposable society. I live in downtown Tokyo so it's a completely different world than you guys, I drive a Subaru microvan, 2008 year model, the last year of the micro vans that you can fit a (Japanese sized) sheet of plywood or drywall into (3'x6'). I get it serviced twice a year and I hope to get another 10 years out of it, but when the motor dies, I will have it rebuilt with a little hot sauce added, no way I'm buying a new one, they keep getting worse and worse IMHO. I wish I had the space to work on my own van, I'm a qualified mechanic but I don't have the space to work on my own vehicles, remember, downtown Tokyo, LOL. A general contractor by trade. Cheers Stu

I love Mrs Fab Rat's sense of humour (sorry, I don't know her name). She laughs in all the right places, and 'almost' forces a smile on Paul's brother's face - he looked like he had had enough of being on the wrong end of all the jokes after two long days of it. I'd say he got the deal of the century getting all that work done in exchange for the loan of a few concrete tools. Great video guys, and for what it is worth, this was the first video I clicked on when checking my KZfaq feed this morning (it's morning for us in New Zealand).

I've got to do something with my one truck too. I sent it to my place in Bulgaria thinking it would be a while before I had to deal with it because I only drive it a few months out of the year. But as soon as my in-laws learned why we love our trucks so much they have been using the hell out of it 😂 They're pretty much hooked now so I'll never have to hear about driving a truck again 😄 But the thing sounds like a old 7.3ford starting because of all the piston slap. I converted it to run on natural gas and it's brutal for the top end. Especially since it's been close to 200k miles.

In 1978 I "borrowed" my Fathers 1964 Chevy Apache c20 4wd Truck to go 'wheelin' w/ my friends... after an uneventful day of 'wheelin' I decided to take a run at a hill that no one else had run... So I throw it into 4 wheel high and take a run at this glorious hill and get mad air at the top only to land in the crux of two hills SNAPPING the frame just behind the cab... SOooo after being pulled off of the second little hill that was just a smidge past the big hill that I landed in the middle of ... I limped the 1964 Apache c20 home w/ the broken frame dragging on the pavement every time I passed over the slightest dip in the road... only to be awakened by my father at 6am Monday morning wondering why was the truck coated in mud and why was the frame broken , since he parked it Saturday evening and had gone to a church revival all day Sunday with the Pastor of the church... Well to this day "I have No Idea" why I ran that hill that no one else tried to climb... Many Blessings , SMR

Only bad thing that ended up happening was my brother had his house broken into and most of the tools he had borrowed got stolen. Was a sad situation at that point.
