My stepfather passed a few years ago and he had a Suzuki Volusia 800 with about 30K that had been sitting in storage for about a year which I inherited. I put a new battery in, drained the tank completely, filled it up with non-ethanol gas. I got it started and let it warm up and rode it around a good while but it was hesitating in every gear and was sluggish at cruising speed. It would backfire so loud when I turned it off it sounded like a shotgun blast. I tried burn it out with a couple of rides but it was no good. I did a Seafoam soak I read about online where I drained all but a cup of the new non-ethanol gas, put a whole can of Seafoam in the tank and started it up until it was thoroughly through the fuel lines. It passed a bunch of white smoke and I shut it off and let it sit overnight. Next day drained the tank, fresh gas and fired it up. Ran all the Seafoam in the lines through to the fresh gas and to my surprise it had completely fixed the hesitation in every gear and all of the overall sluggishness. That was about a year ago and I ride the bike at least a couple of times a week and it rides like brand new, tons of power with no problems.

It helped to clean the carbs I think. I haven't had any issues since then and I've put a lot of miles on!
