Another of the videos that was put on the back burner because I gave Memphis car audio a chance to help find the problem but they chose to hide from it and put me on a back burner.

Or what the true ratings are they would sale thousands. But when the hard worker buys there product and they fail at their ratings that puts word out they are bad! Which they aren't just not what they say they are. Memphis has not been great to me with the few things I have bought. Thanks again and keep up the good work!!!

Sadly in general Memphis doesn't do their rating very much any more even on their PR line. Their amps still feel strong but we are seeing an introduction of 2000 watt max amps that claim 500 rms. Aka the se2000.1df I believe this will be their future. Time will tell with the current rockville lawsuit distributors are doing.

That's great that your getting enjoyment out of it. But the port noise is an issue and with the box rise you can't get the full 500 rms do to their design. The video touches on how they are controlling power with box rise. Overall they are great sounding woofers at 300ish rms. The prefab enclosure could use a few improvements though.

Thanks, and I always try to look out for the consumer, anyone that has shopped with me knows this. I do like the Mojos, as I said in the video if they would call these M3 or M6 ect... it would work as long as they lowered the power rating. I think the 8 offers much more than the 6.5 and in the price range DD Doesnt offer a competive product at the price point, they seem to zig and zag eachother which is why I carry both. You will be happy with these as long as you provide them with clean power and realistic power ;) 300 on the 6 and 600 on the 8.

Get a Memphis Bass Reference 12 if you don't need earthquake bass. They're clean sounding, cheap cost, and take small air space so they won't take up much room. I have 2 PR 15's in a SPL box, ported, on a SR1200.1 Memphis amp and they have a lot of pressure and sound great. $179 each is what I paid for 2 of them, box, amp and installation was $720 for everything. @RandomAudioGuys
@RandomAudioGuys 3 жыл бұрын
While that is a good observation, sadly it was not the case. Many companies can control box rise to help assist with what the subwoofers will see, If you can keep the impedance higher the subwoofer will most likely see 1/4th to 1/2 of what the amp is capable of making, This is a double win for them as it stresses the amplifier less and the subwoofers, Allowing a customer to own a 600 watt kicker amp on 2 entry level kickers and not blow them. Its a good overall tatic and leaves shops with a good reason to design custom enclosures that will perform much better than the preloaded enclosures.

I'm not sure but doesn't the amp clip the signal, not the speaker. The signal is cut from a audio wave when the amp is over or under current I think. A powerful amp should smash a wave into anything with out clipping out and going I into protect mode. I just never heard of a driver clipping.
@RandomAudioGuys

Thanks for the quick response. I've been audio addicted for probably 38 years and understand how amp clipping works and would like to work on a project where the amp learns sup positioning through magnetic gap field resistance in an active set up. Well I sell Memphis in my store but I’m honest. The rms of a mojo mini 6.5 is about 300w. It’s not something to scoff at, but doing my own dyno tests at my shop and giving the customer the honest take goes a long way. Funny thing is, across the line I prefer a Memphis driver to a JL or a Rockford Fosgate. Don’t get me started with the cheap ass sundown woofers. Yes they get higher SPL but they deteriorate and I want a woofer that will last as long as my car. Memphis got what JL has in its current state for about 1/2-3/4 the cost. I’d put a mojo 12 in my car over a W713 any day of the week. Personal preference and bias of course, but I’ve installed both products and damn Memphis is so underrated.
@jaydawg116
@jaydawg116 3 жыл бұрын
I want to reply to discourage future haters about RMS ratings and get to the root of the matter. Rms discrepancies are definitely in there, but the root of the problem is in the “Mojo mini” line of products. So a “mojo” woofer rated double their RMS standard is exclusively in the 6.5” and 8” woofers. Kinda funny the 8” went close to that 800 RMS before clipping out. But still. The line is good to listen to but needs better ratings. Personally put 2200 watts to a mojo 12 in my personal car and I’m happy as a clam.
@RandomAudioGuys
@RandomAudioGuys 3 жыл бұрын
I believe I may have came off wrong also, I like the product but with its current ratings its simply an over rated product. The SQL of these woofers are great, But I've noticed with the new Memphis Pro woofers they are using this same claim and I don't even want to do a video on it because of all the fan boys who believe Memphis can do no wrong. Well let them enjoy what this brand is becoming. PS. Have you had the PR woofers on fire yet becasue they covered the vent holes with the Quality Control sticker ?

More important than how many watts than it can handle is how loud it is it with how many watts you are feeding it, in other words its efficiency. Most of todays cars can only handle so much extra current draw from their alternator.

Back in the day Orion, Phoenix Gold, Precision Power and Rockford Fosgate, as well as a few lesser known brands made rated power and then some. just out of quriosity, did you check theirpower rating with more than just test tones? test tones centers all the power at or around 1 frequency, if you try over a broader frequency range, the cone movement per watt drops down as the power is distributed over a broader range. This should allow the drivers to handle more power. In regards to the ports, thats just bad design, what a waste of product value to go cheap on the cheapest part. flared on both sides makes all the difference.

I sold these products for 2 years and just recently dropped them. They have been test a lot as we sold a ton, when I'm testing rms I use a test tone because rms is a claim of what it can hold 24/7. I paired alot of these with Memphis df2000.1 amplifiers which make 500 rms and gave a pair of them what they liked. 800 rms and up on a pair and I'd lose one occasionally here and there.

@@RandomAudioGuys I think my point still stands, play over a broader bandwidth and you kinda trade cone excution with heat. Im not a car audio guy, but a PA audio guy, in PA, subs have lower cone movement but can still handle plenty of power (at least the high end stuff) even with large enclosures (low pressure inside the enclosure) the reason this is possible is because PA subs can be crossed as high as 120hz.

I really hope they made a marketing mistake. We don't need another solid company going in that direction. Not every person is looking for 10000 watt subwoofers. Most of the people just want a solid performing woofer. 6.5 subs in my opinion are just to add a little more low frequency fill.

I thought that might be the case but I filmed these issues almost a year ago, well about a month or 2 ago, rhey released these 1400 watt rms prefab boxes.

I hope you all do realize Memphis is no longer Underground like all the good bangers that we all listen to nowadays. Memphis has torn and tainted the community you have to realize they sold out and it's very sad Memphis used to be top dog back in the days. They started to fall apart in late 2012 then they stride to rise in 2016......but then again they weren't much into a world of all at that point time. Then again we don't really know what they're up to we can't read their minds. Memphis is an amazing product like Auto Audio treat you as good as you treat them. If people want exploding Bass exploding mids and highs then Memphis is not for you or them look elsewhere. Try Sundown, digital designs, deaf bonce, crescendo and etc that are underground Brands as I listed. there are a whole lot other better underground Brands out there that are better than the mainstream Brands but you have to realize it all depends on how you treat your audio equipment and if you know exactly what you're talking about or what you are looking for and sound quality sound quality loud sound pressure etc etc. My wife, our friends and I did a review and a unboxing video of the Memphis mjm622. I tell you what nothing went wrong during play time when we put power to it more then once. My wife and I collect Auto Audio and the Memphis is on display at our house. it's late I'm using talk to text hopefully this all makes sense.

@@macalla1996 make sense? not really 🤔 before you read this and think I'm attacking you, rest assured I'm simply talking about my experience and opinion. I've had 4 12's by Memphis and they all 4 sounded great. 2 in my truck, 2 in my wife's car. I have 2 Memphis PR 15's, "entry level," in a SPL ported box on a Memphis Street Reference 1200.1 amp, and everyone that gets in my car has to have me cut it down. I'm not sure what you're getting at, but Memphis is a Great Bang for the $$ I paid $720 for everything from the wiring all the way to the second I left the shop and I am totally happy. Memphis has a speaker for every use, the same as other companies do. It all depends on the vehicle, enclosure, settings on the amp, and if you're like me, I play music from my phone and adjust the equalizer on it, and those subs sound awesome. If I had 12's, I would do 4 of the PR's in a wall. I'm considering doing a stack on the 2 I have now and another amp like I have. For the $ I could be extremely loud..

Its not a “trick”. It’s actually impedance rise and all subs experience this….even your beloved DD subs. A subwoofer is a magnetic coil with an inductance. When you input AC current, the resistance (actually called impedance) varies depending on the frequency of the AC signal, as well as temperature. A woofer has its own impedance rise at the Fs of the woofer. Since the coil acts like an induct or, the impedance changes with frequency. If you look at any T/S sheet, you will see the peaks at it's resonant frequency (Fs). Many people do not realize this and understand that the impedance they are calling "impedance rise" is actually there with the woofer out of the box. But that being said, putting the woofer in a box also creates additional impedance spikes due to the box resonance and the port tuning, and because in the box, the cone has a different reaction with pressure behind it, which can change the impedance plot. Impedance of a woofer is based on an average as long as it is a certain percentage over the minimum/nominal impedance, but it is not a flat "X ohms".

You know I can break this down jist as well, but when you want your average audience to get the point you make a video that everyone can understand, you do a scientific break down and you will lose alot of people's attention. But a box can control that rise and help keep the woofer in the higher impedance range causing you to never get good power delivery. Box rise is something many people in competition fight against. The longer they can keep it at their amps ohm rating the higher their score. You take one of these Memphis enclosures to a competition and compete against someone using the same subwoofer in a well built and tuned box you won't have a chance in hell of winning. DD is not a beloved brand of mine for no reason, I just have proven that it is a superior product compared to Memphis. My beloved brand is actually Focal, but since you cannot show sound quality through a video I never show it.

And sometimes when I make these videos I wish I would have done a Impedance run showing the voicecoil's impedance during the run but I only have the 1 meter so I have to keep it on the power to show that. I get so many people that think I cheat or find some reason to think its an unfair comparison. I am trying to show them marketing vs reality from a shop owners perspective who deals with the returns due to the claims these companies make.

What about a frequency change? If you put it on a dyno you'll see impedance changing rapidly with frequency changes (tones) in the music.. youve just tested at a set frequency, try a sweep.. or what about a bigger box tuned higher than spec or just a free air test..? Will breaking them in allow for them to handle it? Just seems like the tests can be broadened to try to hit that number.. but their claim is also that it handles double the power you're feeding it right? Hard to believe in any scenario. Max numbers don't mean shizz normally but to have double the RMS rating they handle is whack on their part.
