@@taruuuu Why even comment this? There’s no need to be negative. News flash: not everyone who’s watching this video is a Lorde fan (as this is quite literally a channel which aims to share new music with their audience) and even some who are might not know this fact (as is evident by some of the replies). I’m a huge Lorde fan too and I just want others to be able to appreciate the masterpiece that is Pure Heroine in its entirety. Lorde put so much thought and intention into this album which I don’t want to go unnoticed.

@@RA-fn7ks None of the alt pop girls sounded like Lorde. Marina was in her Electra Heart era which is pure pop, Lana was in BTD era which is pretty radio pop (but even tho it was kinda different sound-wise at the time, lyrically she wasn't any news). On the other hand, Lorde was literally recognized as the artist who changed radio and pop industry at the time. And yes, I agree that happened also because of her success with Royals, but the truth is, no one sounded like her, cause if they did, they would probably be the ones with a successful era in 2013. Lorde was a nobody, so if anyone who had been in the industry before her, like Lana and Marina for example, sounded like Lorde, they would've made it at the time, and not Lorde, which wasn't the case

it think it’s interesting that you guys commented that it got better as you listened to it, and that you didnt know if it was the “mood” you were in. The songs don’t get better, the power of the album is that GETS you in that mood. It’s incredibly atmospheric, i downloaded the album accidentally when I was 14. i was trying to get only royals and I listened to it back to back nearly everyday. Pure Heroine to me is growing up in small town suburbia, riding the bike with your hair wet, scraped knees, empty parking lots, car rides at night. It’s the moment the street lights start turning on at twilight. it’s stretching, neverending time, it’s standing numbly at the threshold of something new

Lorde had a lot of critical acclaim but she didn't have a lot of mainstream popularity asside from Royals for a couple of reasons. She was really honest and over the kind of "party culture" in interviews which rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. She also didn't try to stay relevant and instead took a 4 year break between Pure Heroine and Melodrama. I think It's for the best that she didn't try to chase fame because she's kept her fanbase and critical acclaim (less so for her most recent album) without staying in the limelight. She's also been an inspiration, alongside Lana Del Rey, to most of today's dark, singer songwriters like Taylor swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, etc.

Lorde was and still is definitely mainstream. You only need one or two hit songs on an album to become mainstream in modern pop culture. Royals, Tennis Court, 400 Lux, Ribs, and White Teeth Teens are all well-known songs, that's quite a feat. She was/is very famous and recognizable. She was at every popular award show, talk show, radio, etc. I really love Lorde, I don't understand the purpose of pretending she isn't mainstream.

This album is 10 years old. Lorde released this when she was 16. listening to pure heroine in 2024 for the first time is a different experience because so many artists tried to recreate it or were inspired by it, so now maybe it doesn't feel as original as it was. But no one could recreate it and still feels fresh to so many. in 2013 there was nothing like this. Team or Royals were something you couldn't ignore on the radios because it was so different and mysterious. The album was weird and fresh and original and brave. Pure Heroine defined a generation like few projects did and being a teenager in 2013 me and so many people felt like we were experiencing an historical thing. - and we were. She adressed things that no one in pop was adressing , pop was very shallow and basic those days! and her sound was completely unique. Melodrama is obviously a masterpiece and I have no idea what it feels to listen it before pure heroine, so many years after when pop music changed so much now! But Lorde definitely was the blue print for alternative dark- pop and for edgy pop singers to be a normal and popular thing nowadays.

I truly feel like the world was never ready for Lorde, that’s the only explanation I have for pure heroine and also melodrama being so critically underrated and overlooked. She’s always been 10 steps ahead of anyone in the pop biz and somehow people aren’t catching up until years later. Hence her influencing pretty much every artist since she started. Anyways, Buzzcut Season, ribs, team and glory and gore are the kind of songs I want to live in, like inject it into my veins bc listening to them isn’t enough. edit: solar power is going to be…interesting😅 I reckon y’all are gonna hate it haha

So glad this video was recommended to me. Pure Heroine got me through the darkest period of my life, age 15-16. To speak to the “not teeny bopper music” conversation, this is why I loved Lorde. Both her music, and her public presence felt very grounded in the experience of being an ACTUAL teenager. Not some bubblegum-best-years-of-your-life bullshit, actual, complicated emotions. It’s dark and difficult, and that’s what being a teenager was for me. Lorde met me where I was at, even if I didn’t relate fully to a lot of her songs, I still felt seen and invited in by them. Those songs kept me company on many scary lonely nights, wondering if I’d ever be okay again. I am so grateful for that album. I’m happy to see more people discovering and enjoying this. I would definitely recommend reacting to Bravado as well. ❤

the album as a whole touches on a lot of themes but the primary one is “post-digital youth culture” (stole that one from pitchfork). This album released when she was 16 and, in my opinion, really captured the feeling of being a teen in the early 2010s (i was 15 at the time). This album as a whole is so incredibly important to me, but ribs will always be my favorite from this one. Ribs very accurately depicts how it feels to be a teenage girl suddenly realizing that your childhood is fleeting and mostly in the rearview and wanting back the simplicity of laughing until your ribs hurt at a sleepover with your best friend. Girls have a lot to fear leaving childhood- from anti-aging propaganda to seeing the way women are pitted against each other and the way that changes the dynamics of friendship between women. The album as a whole touches on how tired Lorde (Ella) is of society, what’s expected, and “people talking”. To be a teen in the 2010s was very much to be exposed to alternative culture and to deviate from expected norms. Most of us wanted to be “different”. Maybe it’s the tumblr kid in me, but this album RESONATES.

If you do Solar Power, it is a stark change. But I genuinely think it’s my favorite album by her. I’ve always loved more new wave psychedelic vibes with beautifully layered vocals. And she delivers in my opinion. If you do this album PLEASE do the two bonus tracks.

It’s been 10 years and this song has been in my top listened on Spotify every year. Ribs has never left my top 50 songs of all times. There are those songs that you just close your eyes and can immerse yourself in. Ribs and a world alone are those two that you just can’t compare to anything else in the world. I’m hoping you go back to ribs and it grows on you a bit. There’s something about those two songs that will brings you a sense of company in any time where you feel scared or alone.

Something to know before listening to her third album is that it is verrryyyy different. Very good, just very different. Also, she kind of goes into hiding between her albums, communicating with her fans mostly through emails she sends out. I think the American market requires "staying relevant" all the time and maybe thats why she isn't commercially as successful as maybe Billie och Taylor.
