PVC Plumbing Intex Sand Filter to Hayward Pump with Union

In this video I replace an old leaking flexible Intex hose connecting my Intex Sand Filter to my Hayward Pump with 1-1/2" PVC pipe and add a union near the pump in case we ever need to remove it for maintenance. I salvage the 40mm (non-standard) Intex flex hose nuts and use one of them to build a custom Intex PVC fitting using a PVC bushing and 1-1/2" PVC pipe connector, allowing me to plumb my sand filter to the standard fittings on my Hayward pump

Man, I owe you a case of beer. You just solved my problem. I have now tried 3 times to make my new pump play nice with my intex system, and right now it's just dripping. The key, for me, was to use the 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 bushing with the original screw, that's just genius if you ask me, if I knew where you lived, I would ship beer to you.

Where do you get those 40mm nuts if you don't have them?

There are multiple ways to make this connection, but I find this one I use to be the best, there are a couple aftermarket adapters that are poorly made. Either find a used Intex hose on eBay to harvest the 40mm nuts, or buy a new replacement on Amazon amzn.to/3J5WsFQ

Are you supposed to prime the fittings before you glue them, or does that glue not need any primer.

Probably a good idea, but it held up well and outlasted the pool liner.

Can't find or dont know how to search for thoae pvc bushing. Been to lowes and home depot

You would look where they sell the white PVC pipe fittings, or sometimes with gray PVC conduit fittings. I will look and see if I have any in the garage and look for the part number

converting to PVC to try to increase water flow. Seems like the reducer takes you back to 1 1/4" defeating my purpose. Any other way to connect my 1 1/2" pipe to my pump?

This is the size of the Intex pumps and filters, I’ve run on this adaptation for years, 2-speed Hayward pump into my Intex sand filter, flows plenty of water, no issue at all using the 1-1/4” adapter to make the PVC connection at the filter. Good luck.

Being smooth sided pipe instead of corrugated hose it will flow better. That corrugated hose puts plenty of resistance on the water flow.
