The best advice I have found to work when you are at odds with your partner. Don't treat them as your gf/bf, treat them as your child. For eg: if your child is annoyed with something you did, would you really try to argue or defend your stance? So, now when you are trying to fill the parent's role, you will think(a lot) before speaking and often say things more maturely. Sadly, most of the younger couples don't think much before speaking and are mostly self centered. They are in a relationship just to have fun, happy, sexy moments. But they are never prepared for the sad times. Cause all our movies, literature etc. idealizes the concept of a happy couple who would never have bad times.
