Could not believe that this music composed in 1960s , we Indian are very talented . Listened stories from my father about this Movie and went to watch in theatre when it came in color and believe me when this song came my goose bumps / rongtey kharey ho gaye in the respect of everyone who was invlove in the composition of the music and Lata ( Nusrat of India ) o my GOD Hats off to all the team and respect from bottom of my heart ..

I just watched the Mughal-e-Azam theatre production in Los Angeles, and had to come back to see the original song. The production was superb, and this song was a highlight. And the singer sang this live, while dancing!

The imagery of the song is absolutely exquisite. It's extremely thematic and defiant and beautiful all at the same time. The grandeur of the Palace holds the emperor hostage reflecting her back into his eyes and he can't escape it no matter where he looks. His own wealth and his own splendor sings with her. His own power and his own majesty dances with her. It's such a small moment but it's such splendid cinematography. It's an interesting and beautiful way to show the reversal of power. Bravo.

Beautiful description. Also want to explain a bit, the reflection part starts at the lyrics "chaaro taraf hain unka nazara" meaning "the view/beauty can be seen from any direction", hence the use of mirrors to reflect HER dancing and defiance at the Emperor from all directions. "Parda nahin jab koi khudha se, bando ke aage darna kya" means "When there are no secrets from God, why should we fear our fellows?", and yet again the scene goes to the mirrors, showing that her defiance and her love is indeed out in the open for everyone to see, from all directions (and of course, she's the courtesan for the Emperor, already a very public stage).

With the 'Venus of the Indian screen' : Madhubala dancing like there's no tomorrow, the different emotions of the majestic actors: Dilip Kumar, Prithvi Raj Kapoor & Durga Khote and the sheer opulence of the score by Naushad make this a landmark song. But it's Lata Mangeshkar's silken vocals and Shakeel Badayuni's sharp words that have made this into a timeless, enduring classic. Well spotted. I always thought the far wide angles were picturised on another dancer, wasn't sure it was Gopikrishna. As graceful and talented dancer she was, I doubted if it was really her, considering how strong that part was. No one could've done justice to the song other than Madhubala herself though.

Какая вежливость ,Какая уважение ,с одним взглядом мужа . Жена отступила один шаг назад. Какая спокойная и очень красивая уважение . Надо же . Она из внутри ядом и своей ревностью смотрит на нее . This has to my all time favorite bollywood song.....i get goosebumps every time i hear this......i wasn't able to appreciate the song till i saw the movie and understood the context. The acting, facial expressions, grand sets, heart touching lyrics, sublime music and finally the voice of lataji....uff this is magical perfection!!! Bollywood at its very best. Salute!!
