One thing I really wish that they added to the Thermal Thruster was the ability to use the second charge in midair after the first thrust. It would be really neat to make extremely long horizontal leaps in exchange for giving up the ability to jump out after jumping in.

Honestly one of my favourite things about the Thermal Thruster is that - unlike a lot of videogame jetpacks I've used - it's actually a weapon, and it has some kind of offensive capability, rather than just being a secondary ability attached to the jump button.

Small add: Thermal thruster lets you launch yourself backwards and forwards on the direction you're facing, try to launch yourself and press S, it launches you backwards instead of forwards.

I always thought the thermal roster can be pretty useful if someone put in the time to learn how to use it effectively but since I don’t really play pyro it wasn’t gonna be me, so it cool seeing what it can do

I feel like making the thermal thruster passively switch to one of your other weapons as soon as you launch into the air would massively improve the janky feeling of the weapon. It feels like it was designed with that in mind too.

Literally my first reaction to seeing the super boop was: "Oh my god I want to do that."

I believe holding S while the second part of the jump is initiating will cause it to send you backwards. Super annoying quirk if you don’t know about it, funny juke option if you do.

I call market gardening as pyro "pytroll", and I'm very proud of that name because it sounds like petrol and we all know how much pyro loves that stuff :)

Finally, a video showing newer players on how to use one of my most favorite items for Pyro in the game. Also here's a tip that isn't just useful at times but also incredibly stylish. You can actually use airblast on a rocket from a gullible soldier (as shown in one of the clips of this video) or use loose grenade on the floor to do a pyro rocket jump and then while you're flying in the sky switch to your jetpack to go even further. You'll make some major distance depending on the map while doing this and it's a lot of fun to do once you get the hang of this technique. You could potentially make some really clutch plays or escapes as well by doing this.. just keep in mind where you are trying to do this (and keep track of how much health you have) because there is no way in hell you'll be flying in cp_junction.

I've loved the thermal thruster ever since this one game I had. I was defending last of upward and decided to go pyro for a laugh. With the thruster I was flying around that pit all the time. The cool down time didn't even matter because of the resapwn lockers. Airblasting people into the pit flaming down medics, it was great.

2:00 you do know holding right-click with the detonator then firing gives much more mobility. Plus the fact pyro can use much more frequently and not give up a damaging secondary makes the detonator far better and for me much more fun to use. The faster switch speeds help kill off the enemy about to get away. But yes I do admit the thermal thruster is much better at these big "dive" bombs and rushes and making it easier to get out.

The thruster really helped me a lot in using Pyro (as I'm not really good at using flares and combos) The thruster allowed me to have an ambush type and very offensive playstyle that works pretty much 75% of the time, sometimes even being able to annihilate half the enemy team which gives as the chance to push whatsoever

the "Super boop" has been discussed before by a plat highlander(?) pyro, I remember seeing a clip on upward of him landing on a heavy med combo and "super booping" them off the classic upward 2nd cliff.

when i saw him land on an invisible wall high above the train i litteritly went "what the hell?" trying to understand why a dev whould make the hitbox for an object go that much higher

I love using the thermal thruster with the sharpened volcano fragment. I don't know why but it just works. It crits so often and stack that on top of that the afterburn and the surprise factor with the stomp. It's so stupid yet it works.

as I like to put it after watching someone's video on detonator, the detonator is good for consistency/quickness whilst still getting nuts range, but thermal thrust is further and less damage on a longer cd and deploy time. Basically rocket jumping, but choosing between stock and gunboats vs stock and parachute, although more practical due to damage and control of the thruster.

I always felt like weapons like Thermal Thruster, or even any other bad weapon isnt always as bad as everyone says, and theirs a possibility of an actual use. Something like what Fish Stick on a Stick does in his Bad Weapon Academy (even tho he didnt do it with Back Scatter)

Thank you for this video. I have been running Thermal Thruster and Back Scratcher for a while now, and it's great to see a video on this ~*secret subclass*~ that nobody wants to talk about.

I'm glad other people see the potential in this thing! I'm a pyro main as well, and since I started using the thruster a few months back, it's one of my favorite weapons. One little thing I'll add is that the thruster has a hidden downside where you take much more knockback at all times, even when you don't have it out. Most of the time, this is just a detriment since it allows people to shoot you out of the air, but it can actually be useful, sort of like the old shortstop. You can surf damage much farther than you could otherwise, so if a heavy starts shooting you, I've found you can just crouch jump and basically fly away from them (plus reflected rockets can send you across the map)

The reason why I don't use the Thermal Thruster before you convinced me with this video, is that it's so loud. Holstering, deploying, using it, you name it. It's so much louder than Dead Ringer and you have to be deaf to not hear it. Meanwhile, rocket jumping that offers much more mobility is really quiet and requires you to see the Soldier doing to know that he's performing that.

Best paired with the dragons fury (especially if sentries exist).

I love using this with the Dragon's Fury. It's good enough to stand on its own as a primary weapon, and the added mobility of the jump pack helps with getting picks. For melees I either go with the powerjack or the backscratcher when there aren't medics

The Thermal Thruster's best upside is obviously being able to Rancho Piano up in the skybox.

I absolutely love using the trusters. It’s my go to secondary. The movement it gives is is why I love it. Being able to be used to get in and out of situations is such a big appeal for me

getting behind the engie nest on a map like tfort with this is very fun, most snipers have tunnel vision and the dragon's fury takes down sentries real good like so i say its basically super jump/ jet packs from ttt which are banned in combat on some servers they have them since jumping high up is a "op" strat

I just use it to bully snipers with the degreaser(only use it for the switch speed, not for offense) and Sharpened volcano fragment on Hightower,thunder mountain, bad water, and double cross I forgot to mention pushing people off of upward is fun

Clearly the best secondary for support pyro is the scorchshot. Just resist the urge and use it only for the sticky destroying stat

Thruster needs warpaint compatability tbh. I also kinda like the increased knock back you take w/ it equipped, sometimes helps with escapes, buuuut is mostly just funnee

finally, someone who GETS it. Ive been using this baby since the item came out, and man its so good. Honestly I think its one of pyros best items. You have no idea how many pubs ive stomped because of how AGRESSIVE you can be. You take one point, instantly just jump to the next point, burn any defenses they might have started, probably die, then your team comes in and starts wiping them at the next point. Rinse and Repeat. Your honestly a better medic picker than spy and sniper with the boot and burn combo. I love the thermal thruster.

I adore the thermal thruster, it’s my most used pyro secondary by far. The only issues I have with it are the holster and equip speed being a bit too slow and the recharge being really restrictive. And while this isn’t really an issue, the two smoke puffs that shoot out of the sides of your screen when you launch (best seen in 3:54) always made me think of fireworks, and I get sad because being able to expend a charge to shoot 2 low damage, decent knockback, insanely fast afterburn projectiles without jumping would be fun.

I would say to fix it, make take-off and landing more devastating. Make it a big grand action. When you take off, shake the screen that knocks enemies around and still extinguishes teammates and debuffs and all of that. When you Land, shake the screen, and knock enemies around, and clear all the debuffs off you. Make everyone know that you took flight.

This weapon is INSANE with the phlog, you can use it to close the gap to build mmmph, and it also allows you to chase enemies down when your crits are active, plus, if you time the taunt perfectly with a goomba stomp, you gain full invulnerability and and extra 3 seconds of crits.

I love the shitpost editing style you did during the "Super Boop" segment.

Here’s one thing about the detonator. You can increase the knock back you take by holding the set button before jumping. If you crouch jump with it the thermal thruster is just kinda outshined. Like the detonator mini crits, can ignite players, allows you to rocket jump, destroys stickies, and gives you some combo potential. The thruster just moves you into the enemy. If the thruster did some small aoe fire damage I think I would use it with the detonator. It’ll be a side grade. The overall slower but safer jet pack, or the fast acting higher damage but riskier detonator.

Whenever I use it I just use it to jump to areas where you can hide or get behind teams and it makes it fun since I suck with the Scotch shot of all things

I've found that the thermal thruster is pretty good on (some) 2fort matches because you can cross the bridge, grab the Intel, and cross the bridge again for a really fast capture that some people won't expect

Still wishin for a strange version of all unique weapons Something I never ever hear from anyone about the Thrust is you can go backwards with it by holding S and looking down

First 8 seconds, lmao, instant like button slam Just, brings back being tired and hearing that jingle as they vhange scenes or get back to it

Its also super easy to get people into the air if you just do the following: 1: Be relatively near an enemy (little closer than flamethrower range) 2: Crouch, and look up. 3: Airblast while crouching towards the enemy. Doing this launches said enemy up into the air straight up, and can be done extremely quickly.
