I'm a PSG fan and watched every games. Ugarte came at the club before Luis Enrique because Campos thought Nagelsmann would come. During the friendlies, Ugarte was put at 6 and was very aggresive and good to recover the ball but we quickly saw that he was struggling to resist at pressing and do good passes. He almost only does safe passes to the defenders/8. So the coach tried him at right back, he then put him again at 6 to give him some confidence. He improved a little with the ball and was one of the best player and most used of the team until the game at Milan where he was awful with and without the ball. In this period he declined physically and did so many faults. Ugarte lost his spot in the starting 11 because Luis Enrique wanted more control so Ugarte was benched most of the times for Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha was class at 6. PSG play 90% of its games against low blocks, Ugarte was very useful in the counter pressing but struggled too much with the ball. I think that Ugarte would be better in England because there are more spaces, runs and intensity. In my opinion Ugarte should play in a double pivot or at 8 to chase the opponents and recover. He will be frustating to watch if you expect him to be a 6 or a regista. Because he let too many spaces in his back and he is not a progressive passer.

hes good, but some of his analysis contradict each other or just dont make sense. Like he will criticize Ugartes possession, but if there was a similar player who did try to beat the press by himself (even somewhat successfully) he would then criticize them for losing the ball in bad defensive positions. Or when he says Ugartes short quick passes are negative because then he puts his teammates under more pressing pressure? Quick passes around is often the best way to beat a press, much more often than trying to rampage through a press all alone.

I think a goalkeeper like Onana will be comfortable playing with him. Easily release the pressure by passing it back at times to a goalkeeper who is very comfortable with the ball

I would have loved for you to have redone the transfer section. United and Bayern would be the 2 fits I would like your opinion on. Tho the way you describe Ugarte Palinha is a better fit for Bayern. PS: Would you be interested in doing Transfer Guides for Teams for the summer? Obviously you wouldn’t have time the scout the players in as much detail as you do for these videos.

Yes, I would love to hear that for Bayern. They desperately are looking for someone like him and Palhinha seems to be too expensive. Also PSG wants to have Coman so they are already talking. Palhinha with Kimmich or Pavlo would be interesting.

Pythagoras in Boots, thanks for your great work. I am wondering, what do you think the plan is at United? Some the more exciting talents are signing deals elsewhere. Like Mats Wieffer, being bought by Brighton at 30 mill. euros., Zeno Debast, world class talented CB going to Sporting, Désiré Doue looks like going to Tottenham and now Nico Williams going to Barcelona. What do you think United´s plan is? Who are they bringing as CDM? Is it Ugarte and is he the best they can in market? I mean he is not a starter at PSG. you need to do an analysis on Vitinha who isn't a DM but still somehow makes PSG more secure defensively because of how the team handles the ball when he's playing. How does Enrique get away with not using a dm in very important games. He prefers a vitinha, Ruiz and Emery midfield with vititnha playing the deepest over Ugarte even if on paper he has better defensive output. Vitinha is almost utilized like Rodri in city which begs the question; are traditional DMs still relevant for top teams who dominate possession ? what's the use of Ugarte in a PSG side when he offers close to nothing on the ball keeping in mind that PSG have the ball for the most parts of every game.

Your analysis is the most detailed on KZfaq. This confirms my suspicions that he maybe lacks the intelligence or is just the wrong profile for United. He'd probably be a good backup to Mainoo, but not quite what we need as that 6. Maybe lacking that world class potential as well. It'd be cool to see a video like this on Joao Neves. I think he is one of the most promising youngsters out there rn. Possibly perfect for what United are looking for.

I said last season that Ten Hag's system needs a DM in the mould of Kanté to make his transition football work, without leaving the defense over exposed & it seems Ugarte is just that. Seems like Ten Hag's pushing for him.

I'd personally still prefer Amadou Onana as the DM signing for Man Utd. Ugarte's lack of recovery & aerial ability would mean our midfield is still lacking in those areas if he's to be paired with Mainoo. Onana, for me, would be a better fit in this instance.

With tracking back and aerial duels being both their biggest weaknesses, I can see that pairing having problems especially against negative transitions (counters) and set pieces. Wharton seems like a much better fit for Mainoo

I think its not fair to just look at a pairing and only judge their strengths and weaknesses, You also have to look at the whole team. If they have two elite centrebacks behind them and agressive and mobile full backs beside them, the weaknesses can be negated. For example with Maguire at the back , any offensive formation would be left vulnarable to counters because of Maguires lack of pace. United struggled with any midfield pairing to play offensive dominant football and outcompete the team for possession while playing a high line, even with midfielders in the team such as Pogba and Bruno. It can work, absolutely in the right team. I think i United it looks like the right place. Onana Dalot Yoro Licha Shaw Ugarte Maino Bruno looks like a well balanced core to me.

My concern is his aerial duels, team will be lacking in heights eventually we will be vulnerable to set pieces. If we look at the united players, hoping united might buy de ligt, apart from him we don't have any players in playing 11 who are good at aerial duels, so i would prefer rather a tall CDM along with another tall CB to cope with the set peices
