I did a deep dive into the GH Gov/Econ/PF reading list and came up with a tentative plan to turn it into 3.5 credits, similar to what you mentioned. Year 1 would be 1 credit of Honors US Government (Honors = doing all the 'extra' things at the end of each week) and 0.5 credits of "Digital Citizenship & Media Literacy" by combining the books Slanted, Shallows & Collective Illusions with the Common Sense Media Digital Literacy high school modules, plus the Crash Course Navigating Digital Information + Media Literacy videos, plus the high school lessons from a book called "Developing Digital Detectives". Year 2 would be 1 credit of Honors Economics and 1 credit of Personal Finance (all their recommendations + our own reading list of books like "Your Money Or Your Life" and "The Millionaire Next Door" and projects like "make a spreadsheet to estimate how old you'll be when you retire given these assumptions" and "plan your wedding with a budget of $XYZ"). These topics are all very close to my heart & it's a fun creative exercise to put these ideas all together into baskets for actual credits.

My tip for choosing curriculum without FOMO is to clarify my goals for my kid before I start trying to choose anything. Once I know what my goals are, I look for curriculum that matches well. This gives me a laser focus on what will be best for us, without getting sidetracked by all the things that might be good. For example, last year for biology, I wanted my daughter to practice working from a textbook and taking notes on her reading, and I wanted her to get practical experience with a microscope and writing lab reports. I chose a program that had all of that, which seemed easy for me to implement.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all the questions. Just one more- instead of splitting GH government, Econ and finance into two years could you split it up into 2 semesters? Government fall semester and Econ and finance Speing semester? Or would the reading be too much?

I think that would depend on your student and how much they enjoy reading. You’d definitely be doubling up on chapters each day if doing some of the suggested books. I thought the iCivics packets were great and she usually did 2 a week on one topic. You might consider only doing 1 per topic (if you use them at all)
