Freemasonry is AWESOME! Or at least that is what everybody who is involved with Freemasonry seems to say.
Surely there is a bad side, a down side, or a con to Freemasonry.
With so many Pro's, what are the Con's?

Your videos are fantastic. I was a master mason in a lodge in nj that lost its charter many years ago. I have become inactive for just as long but looking to get re-instated and involved again. The reason I want to get involved again is precisely what you mentioned in your final con...people's ignorance. Thank you for being part of the reason why I want to be involved and become part of the brotherhood once again, Jared. Keep up the good work!

Some very good points particularly regarding the negativity to put it mildly from outside agencies, particularly from religious denominations. With regards to this it never ceases to amaze me that certainly in the UK there have been numerous churchmen down the years who are active Masons and see no conflict whatsoever with their chosen profession.

Reminds me a lot of the Charge to a newly initiated Entered Apprentice. I think you misunderstand the meaning and there is certainly no malice implied. Ignorance does not mean stupid or even uneducated, it simply means a lack of knowledge of a particular subject. I do not know much on the subject of Renaissance Art so it would be improper for me to call the entire genre stupid and ridicule or belittle a scholar or an enthusiast in the field for their views and beliefs just because I am ignorant on the matter. The Charge to a new member is a plea to not allow an emotional response due to your enthusiasm cause you to devolve into an argument with someone about Freemasonry who just simply might not have all the facts or know exactly what it is they are arguing about. What is to be gained from arguing with someone about it? No one said Freemasonry is beyond reproach, and I think you will find that any of us welcome an intelligent discussion with someone critical of the fraternity. Inquisitiveness is an excellent attribute for a Mason to posses and not one that we shy away from. It is not our job to defend Freemasonry, only to discover it's meanings for ourselves and try to pass our interpretations along to those who might be interested in hearing them. I would like to ask, you mention discussion with a "non-believer." A non-believer in what, exactly? Do you mean a believer of Freemasonry or a believer of God? Masonry is not a religion nor does it profess a belief in any particular deity, except a prerequisite being that a person must believe in a higher power.

I must say thank you all round for all your videos. I watch quite a few of them. they're very straight forward and simple which is what is needed for an outsider such as myself. once my local lodge opens back up from summer time shut down I hope everything goes well for me. I must say probably the worst thing about Freemasonry is not anything to do with Freemasonry, that is outside speculation and mass information of the WWW. (lots of great examples of this throughout history lol) and what can be seen as 1st impression may give an onlooker. they hear about something, look it up and most of what they see on the internet is negative and they remember it as so. I was one of those people who was first introduced by the internet that Freemasonry is something to be feared and negative, and it was through further research and questioning where I came to the true conclusion that what I was seeing was very very false. Thankfully trial and error is a natural thing (for some more than others lol) and possibly half of those who are introduced to the negative false speculation will search further, connect the dots and see the truth (such as myself over the years) then about roughly %25 of those who were introduced negatively through the internet will join. I'm greatly looking forward to the next up coming months, these are seemingly the proudest days of my life, and I cannot wait to wear my new $800 suit lol furthermore, yet again, Thank you, thank you, thank you! :)
@WhatisaMason
@WhatisaMason 7 жыл бұрын
Whew, an $800 suit, that's a big investment! Thank you for watching the videos and taking the time to investigate on your own. The issue you mention surely dues affect Freemasonry, but it is not limited there. You can see the same type of single-mindedness when it comes to politics, religion, with co-workers and even inside the home.

Thank you for the video.. this is the 2nd one I've watched, and have no issues with what you've said. Masonry is a beautiful thing when it expressed as it was intended.. what you say is true about the negativity toward masonry mostly by those who don't know.. if I can add on to what you mentioned about when Free Masons came into existence.. maybe you've heard some of things or maybe not.. I can agree that I have not been taught an exact date, but it is said it goes back to ancient Egypt, and King Solomons temple. Even signs of the gnostic teachings related to ancient Egypt, and views of hermetic thought or should I say thot/toth before the Greeks took him and created Hermes .. this was a time of great knowledge, and a lot of the symbolism can be seen then.. sorry if I wrote you a book, but it makes me excited to see you involved enough to make the videos you do. I've heard of some Grand Lodges getting back to people same-day. Other times... people never hear back. It's all based on the internal process of that Grand Lodge. It's possible the Grand Secretary will forward your information to a lodge and ask them to contact you... but sometimes they drop the ball. Other times the Grand Secretary, or a staff member, will contact you directly. All in all, I'm no in PA, so I haven't a clue. I'd say if you haven't heard something in a week, try again. Or, just use their lodge locator to find a lodge close to you and contact them directly.

I live in Scotland, basically the head of freemasonry. I know for a fact that you can't trust any man. My family and friends are Freemason's, UVF,etc Military, aunt's in the eastern star practicing witchcraft and fortune telling, SAS.etc I was asked if I wanted to become a young Lewis but with my experience in the military and knowing what people do in my family and lodges I said no. Solomon's wisdom must be for a reason but I have yet to find a man who has no sin. Also if Solomon the wisest man of all used his ring to control demons to build the temple, then are you not also being used to build temples, and other things? Is it true that it's Lucifer the bright morning star that you accept going into the 33rd degree? As it is in Albert pike's morals and dogma, Yes you may reveal it to the brethren of the 31,32,33 rs degrees that it is Lucifer that we worship, a strange name for the dark one? He also says in his book that they and even brethren deserve to be decived? The original lie at the tree of good and evil, and what you are initiated by:- Whispered in your ear with the blindfold on, "You won't die"!!! You will be like God knowing good and evil. So do we all deserve to be decived? And is Lucifer the bright morning star, the fallen one? As be not astonished as even Satan Can appear as a angel of light!! For its not flesh and blood we wrestle against but "principalities, power's and spiritual wickedness in high places"! This is what freemasonry practices, principalities power's.etc Children of light work in the daylight. Not night time. Freely have we been given freely are we to give Jesus Christ said and Jesus Christ is not mentioned in freemasonry. As it is still rumoured to this day among the Jews, masonic Jews? That Jesus Christ didn't rise from the dead? by God's power or his own but by the power of men's ? And God is not the author of confusion , so why all of the confusion? And there is no forgiveness of sins apart from covering up eachothers in the brethren. I don't want to be calling good evil and evil good, I just don't trust anyone. I'm not trying to offend or do anything bad I just know through experience you can't even trust family, friends nor can I even trust myself in many situations or lean on my own understanding.

Some awesome points Jared. First a comment on the last part, why the negative attitude towards Freemasonry. My opinion is that the majority of this is due to Freemasonry being undeniably based on faith, but not on a Specific faith. Many people can not comprehend that we accept anyone who believes in a Supreme Being, and we can all pray together without invoking the deity using the specific identity that they ascribe to. I have had people who know full well that I am a committed Christian, and Elder in my church, Sunday School Teacher, Lay liturgist, tell me Freemasonry is Satanic because we do not insist everyone acknowledge the Trinitarian Diety. Meeting as brothers on the level with those of different faiths is so "out there" for some that it creates a belief that if all Masons don't believe as they do, it must be an evil conspiracy. On a lighter note, one con I have noted is difficulty staying on a diet! Every meeting I go to there seems to be a dinner, snacks, etc. We have a catered dinner before every stated meeting, we have a less formal meal laid out both before and after extra meetings for degrees. At District visitation meetings the dinners are a cut above normal stated meeting dinners and even at district School of Instruction nights the district picks up the tab for Pizza for everyone after the session. The only events I go to that don't entail a meal at the lodge in question are the Ritual Instructions at my lodge, but we always go out for Buffalo Wings afterwards! Freemasonry can challenge your waistline! A couple more things, and I apologize for being so long. 1) From the start of the video I was searching for your ball puzzle /art piece and thought you didn't include it, but once you leaned back VIOLA'! 2) I was wondering if in MS you celebrate "Masonic Birthdays" in Lodge? Here in PA each month during our stated meeting we acknowledge the anniversary of any brothers who were Entered in that month as their "Masonic Birthday." Every brother who was Entered in that month comes up and we make a line from North to South before the Alter, and the WM, SW, JW and DDGM if present congratulate and shake hands with each brother and the WM gives a gift. It was very touching when I had my "First Birthday" last week!
@WhatisaMason
@WhatisaMason 7 жыл бұрын
Your first point is a good one, and you did a fine job explaining it better than I could have. I usually default to the composition of the workplace. You work with people who go to different churches and have other faiths, but you still work at the same company with them, right? Well, guess what, Freemasons can all agree to believe in Deity, but approach that in different ways, and still meet and work together, even in prayer. As for dieting, I wholly agree. I recently started eating supper at home just to cut down a few inches. It worked, too. The playable art ball will be in a different location in the future (after a couple more already-filmed videos play out). I was disappointed when I realized I blocked it in all the videos filmed in this new location. Masonic Birthdays... no, I cannot say I've ever heard of that being a "thing" - certainly not in my lodge nor around here in general, to the best of my knowledge. It does sounds like a good, free and easy, to make Brothers feel remembered, even if they are not filling a chair or working a committee or some other function - they still get recognized. Happy Birthday!

@mathew riedhammer If your job is preventing you from joining, it's relatively common for a man to join Freemasonry when he has finished building his career and is relatively settled in his job or even after he has retired. As Jared says, your family comes first and then your job. So if either or both of those things prevent you from going to meetings, then wait until you DO have the time. No point in joining if you can't enjoy the Craft by going to the meetings.

@KushKing The ONLY secrets in Freemasonry are the sign, grip and word of the Degree being worked. All else can be discussed with anyone. Why do we promise not to divulge those things? It's simply a symbolic way of displaying integrity. You promise not to divulge the secrets and you keep your word... a man of integrity does that. It's not the CONTENTS of the Secrets that are important... it's the fact you are keeping your word not to divulge them. That said, IF a Mason has the SLIGHTEST thought that a friend will join... We would say don't tell him anything at all about the ceremonies. Why not? Because those ceremonies have a much greater effect if you experience them afresh with no prior knowledge. IF you join and do not feel you can keep those simple things to yourself... don't join.

Charges are different than convictions. Each jurisdictions (state or country depending on where you live) will handle it differently. Whatever the case the best advice is simply to be honest. Either way, better for you to tell your story up-front than them find a potential loose thread in your past and wonder why you didn't tell them in the first place.

It is true that this happens, and we do the same thing - but not always. There are times when someone does not pay their dues purely because they lost interest, or opted to spend it on more frivolous things. However, when a true brother is in real need, the fraternity will support him.

Absolutely, if a brother finds he is unable to pay due to his current financial situation he has but to talk with the Secretary, the Worshipful Master or the Almoner and it will be taken care of. When our dues notices are sent in the late fall there is always a note to that affect and also a request to pay a little extra if you are able, to help cover the dues of distressed brothers.

i have a question that i believe could make an interesting video idea. moving as a mason. if i spend years at my local lodge and reach master mason & have to move due to work or family, will i be starting over as a fellowcraft at my new lodge or will i maintain my master mason degree regardless of moving? does the answer change if the relocation involves different states as i know each state has its own grand lodge and may have varying rules. just something in curious about. i always tend to relocate after 5 or so years in a new place, would i have to ground my roots solid and stop traveling if i joined freemasonry? what about traveling as a freemason? what if im not moving but i am going to he out of town for a month, and will miss 4 meetings, could i catch 4 meetings at the local lodge in the area that i will be in during that month stay or is that frowned upon? do some masons travel the world and live rhe rv lifestyle visiting a new city every week & attend a meeting in a new city every week that they are traveling? is that even possible or allowed? these are just a few questions that have crossed my mind.

@Paul Flurry If you join a Regular Lodge and reach EA, FC, MM or even become a Past Master, you retain that rank whichever Regular Lodge you join. You will need a clearance certificate from any Lodges that you were a member of prior to moving to your new Lodge, to prove that you are "in good standing" with them. Freemasonry would NEVER EVER require you to stop travelling. My own Lodge is a Naval Lodge and very often, men who are still serving are away at sea for months (sometimes years) on end. We remember them each time we meet at 9pm, when the hands of the clock are at a right angle (a square) and hope that no matter where they are in the world, they will be doing the same, at the same time as us. Your family and work come first, then Freemasonry. Visiting other Lodges is not only allowed, it is encouraged! It is an excellent way to increase your circle of friends and brothers and to increase your knowledge of the Craft.

@OG Henderson Not at all. A mason follows whatever religion he wishes to follow and there is NO requirement in Freemasonry for any further religious affiliations in Freemasonry. All Masons follow whatever religion they followed before they were Masons and there's no change afterward. Some appendant bodies DO require a certain religious beliefs, for example the York Rite is Christian, but these appendant bodies are separate bodies to Regular Craft Freemasonry. You join them if you wish, after you have become a Master Mason. In fact, you do not have to profess a religion... The North Sea to the East and the Irish Sea to the west. "Go and join Lucifers squad"? Lol.. er.. I've been a Mason for over 20 years and have yet to encounter anything like what you mention. Sadly, you have been duped by the Leo Taxil Hoax and the misquotes from a book called Morals and Dogma...both of which I recommend NOT to study as they are completely inappropriate when curious about Freemasonry. Like a few people, Schnoebelen has books and videos to sell and he makes personal appearances (not for free, I hasten to add) in an effort to "educate" people. What he is ACTUALLY doing is.. making quite a good living, thank you very much. He is mining a particularly rich seam of cash: The gullible! There are so ,many people out there who are willing to pay lots of cash to be fed codswallop..and they just keep on coming. do you know why? It's because the human mind just loves a mystery. Thats why books and movies in that genre do so well.. the human brain just laps them up. So the likes of Schnoebelen, Alex Jones, Jim Marrs, David Icke give them what they want.. and then they go to the bank.... and smile. Just remember. It is easier to dupe someone than it is to get them to admit they have been duped.

I need to watch your channel more because I'm still confused to what the point is and all these degrees. I assume each degree teaches the person a lesson. They pose no threat to you or anyone. If you want a cause to take up, go after real criminals. The men of the craft are not on a mission to make you uncomfortable.

@William Shakespeare The Turd what questions? It is funny how someone uses the term gaslighting to pose an argument or serious inquiry. Symbols and signs are everywhere. People looking for a cause or conspiracy see them everywhere. How two people from the same fraternity greet each other is no more a sign of conspiracy or evil doing than anything else. You think these men that have regular jobs just like you are anyone else are apart of some secret kabal to take over and rule the world. Sure there are some high ranking men in society that are free masons, but they are a minority. The only time anywhere you see a large number of Freemasons congregated together is at an event for Freemasons. They were in the minority in the formation of the country, and anywhere else. So you are safe. Oh and it is not illegal to congregate with people of like mind. We don’t live in a communist country. Proof of that is that you and I can still have this conversation over social platforms such as this. In some places your time on the internet is controlled by the state. So you have nothing to fear. Your witch hunt is baseless. As a matter of fact it is people like you that believe in conspiracy theories and such are the reason several women were burned at the stake and accused of being witches just for being opinionated, not married, or had property that men wanted. At least as a Freemason, I don’t side with the populace about things that I have no proof of. You are reaching and have no proof of nothing you speak of.
