Alex, my boyfriend of five years, joins me to talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly we've experienced since I became paralyzed in a plane crash a year and a half ago. To couples going through this now, or anyone considering an inter-abled relationship, we hope our insight can help you.

Joci & Alex, thank you so much for being open and vulnerable by posting this. It was so informative, loving and fun to watch.

I enjoyed hearing your story! I had to laugh when Alex said he had to do all the work when lifting you! 😂 My youngest daughter is quadriplegic, and it was VERY difficult to learn how to lift her safely at first, compared to lifting our other kids. But it's so natural for us now.

Thank you! It is definitely different & not something that others not in this situation understand. Best wishes to you and your daughter 💗

Great job! ‘Being newly injured, it looks like you’ve adjusted quite well. You’re relationship seems real , sweet, and humble. It’s nice to see a “real” couple living life and working and growing together instead of ones putting on a show. I relate to all your questions and answers. I’m 30+ years post injury. Parts of your injury will get easier, some more challenging. Anyway.... have you thought about hand cycling and getting back to marathons. I was a runner (marathon and previously high school/college). I’ve done many marathons and other races post injury. Loved it. ‘Haven’t raced in three years, but life has been busy -- Other commitments. One more thing, people will be asking to help you for the next 30+ years. Just treat each one like it was your first time hearing it. They don’t know you’ve been asked the same question or offered help by hundreds of others. And patience. Perfect description from your boyfriend. That’s what my husband would say, also. And one last tidbit (because you seem like a nice young lady), marriage is waaayyyyyy better than living together ( only because you mentioned “living together” at one point in the video). Again, anyway... good job on your videos. Keep making them, you do have a lot to offer. Btw, I subscribed. 😎

I get that he’s trying to be kind and pc, but dating someone in a wheelchair is NOT like dating someone able to walk. There are many physical and social obstacles that other people don’t face. And there must be some psychological pressure and trauma a person who’s been in a severe accident has. So saying there’s no difference is not true.

He is sweet though, I’m definitely not hating- just observing facts.
