I just want to say thank you for this detailed information. I am in my late 20's.. and would like to have my own daycare business .. I have been contemplating daycare as my first business for the past two years, but I feel this will be a great first business because it's a need based business, I am wondering how much was your start up cost for the daycare business? and how was the rental option for the house? are home owners ok with renting out space to begin a daycare? was it challenging finding a landlord willing to rent a house for the daycare?

Hi Danielle, I am thinking about starting a home daycare out of my home. I'm in NY State and it seems that the licensing is very complicated to fill out. I don't want anymore than 3-5 children. Do you know if there are any places you can go to get help with filling out the information for the licensing?

Like I want to have assistants, I have read, read and read about whether I am able to consider them as employees or independent contractors. I would like to have them be independent contractors, since you have started and you have the assistants. Can you tell me which one is the best way to go with? Did you hire your staff right away. I will be opening up a home day care in the future. I am doing my research first. My main concern will be how am I going to pay my staff right away. I will go through a payroll company. I probably will not be at the business full time being that I too am a student mom and I have a full time job. I am assuming that I will have two full time staff and one part time. I would also like to have first and second shift hrs available for parents. Any helpful types for me. This will be my second business. My first business is seasonal. So I am so excited about starting my next.
