A lot of parents turn to the Internet these days to pick up Sanskrit names for their children. As it turns out, a lot of name websites deceive parents by inventing non-existent Sanskrit names or giving dubious meanings. This talk with real-life examples is an eye-opener for parents wishing to give a Sanskrit name to their children.
About the speaker: -
Nityananda Misra is an IIM Bangalore graduate and a finance professional. He is a scholar of Sanskrit and Hindi and a well-known author. He has edited/authored eleven books, including ‘The OM Mala’ and ‘Kumbha: The Traditionally Modern Mela’. He writes on Hindu religion, philosophy, and culture.

If you name someone after Deities or Avataars don't forget to use words like 'Das' after the name. Because that person cannot be Lord but his servant.🙏🏻

@@rsn4189 That's a very Abrahamic perspective. We are Vedantists and should be knowingt that we are one with deitees and Bhakti is a way to achieve this union. We have had for example infinite Vishnu bhakts named Narayana and Shiva bhakts named Shambhu.

In Marathi culture, every child has 2 names... 1) The real name which is based on the Moon's birth Nakshatra. This name is not known to all. It's kept a secret and is uttered only during Yagnas along with the gotra. This name is usually Puranic or Vedic. 2) the common name that's registered on the birth certificate that everyone uses.

Yes , you and many today are from so called science ,but only from a limited science ie only the physical science, which believes in visible and measured dimensions and not beyond of other dimensions. True Sanatan Dharam is based on all physical and beyond physical dimensions. Why can't the physical science accepts the facts that there could be science beyond physical dimensions ie Pra Prakriti which is beyond five physical elements ie Prithvi , jal ,Agni , vayu and akaash and even beyond man , Budhi and anhkar . These can be known only by beyond these so called inv investigations and research . But present science rules out anything beyond their realm ,which is not true scientific approach. @@raghavbhardwaj3192 I was not questioning his innocence or integrity, rather highlighting his ignorance in separating/isolating the two as separate entities. In other words, Samskrit(am) is/has always been the language of the science. You pick any faculty of science, starting from Art & ending with quantum mechanics - every one of those pure science, has been hypothesized, researched, debated, documented in Vedas/Upanishads/Shastras/Shurtis/Smritis written mostly in Samskrit(am) Bhasha. A small example : Surya Siddhanta = the mind-boggling, voluminous repository that combines Astronomy, Astrology, Calculus, Cosmology, Geology, Optics, Physics, Mathematics....(the list is long) today's entire cutting edge space technology that the NASA boasts of, have been appropriated/stolen by the so-called, scientist after european scientist = is written in Samskrit(am) and only 1% of the entire repository has been understood by the scientific community today.

I was flabhaghasted where a hindu -sikh couple, the lady gave the name of her brother who died in an accident to their first male baby and they are adamant not to select from thousand other meaningful names ? Name and sound go together so they keep inviting vibrations of the dead person back into their life and home every time they call him by that dead person's name .

6:25 onwards - The point raised by the gentleman is applicable to all knowledge, laws and theorems developed over the course of human history on which current systems are built. Panini may be wrong and so may be Aryabhatta, Galen, Newton, Fermi, Heisenberg and Einstein. Now, if one comes up with names that are wrong as per the language systems that the person isn't proficient in , the premise that he /she can just declare that the people involved in developing the systems could have committed mistakes is as logical as a situation where someone who doesn't know relativity defends a mistake related to the application of relativity, just declares Einstein being guilty of errors while coming up with relativity . As another person who comes from science and practises the same , this approach doesn't seem scientific to me by any stretch of the imagination. Unless one can summarily prove one's premise that something is wrong, the existing systems will be considered corrrect. The burden of the proof lies on the challenger unless he expects Panini/ Einstein to come forward and prove their innocence in a court of inquisition. Without proof, such comments are just entitled opinions that don't matter in the scientific world. n.b.- I have almost zero knowledge of Sanskrit.
