I enjoyed hearing your answers.. i completely agree .. there is balance that needs to be had.. between being gentle and being an authoritative parent .. kids need boundaries! I like ending my school days by 1230 also .. what time do your kids normally get up and have breakfast ??

My kids get up at 7. We have breakfast around 8-8:30.

You are a huge encouragement to me! I wish I could hang out with you, but I live in the US in the Florida panhandle. I enjoyed hearing more about your extended family and how you came to live in New Zealand.

I’ve changed curriculums and we use different math church’s hot different kids!!! I love sonlight as well even tho my oldest is doing it independently!!! I don’t agree with skipping church but I’ve found sports that aren’t on a Sunday!!! I go to practices with my teenager but as my sporty kid is older he goes to them Independently as we don’t live far from basketball and I trust him and his coach!!! I’ve been known to read up to an hour at bedtime and my kids love it!!! I’m slowly going thru a devotional on grace and my older kids are doing with me and my husband!!! I do school with my youngest 1st and it works for us!!!

I'm in Australia - how do you find sonlight with the national curriculum? I love the look of myhomeschool as I love that it fits with the curriculum as I don't want to be spending my night times figuring out curriculum etc. Curious to hear your thoughts

Honestly, Sonlight is vastly different to our national curriculum here in New Zealand. However, I also don't really pay any attention to the curriculum taught in schools here, so I haven't done many comparisons at all.

@ThisHomeschoolHouse good to know. Thank you. My daughter is currently in school, so if I homeschool, I think I'll need to report, which I assume means I've gotta keep up with the curriculum. Thanks so much for your channel. Love it!

I’m confused what you mean by non subscribing to gentle parenting when you described your parenting exactly like gentle parenting 😅 permissive and gentle/authoritative are not the same thing. Just like gentle/authoritative is not the same thing as authoritarian.

Some of the parenting methods I use may overlap with gentle parenting as far as practicality goes, but I disagree with the basic premise of gentle parenting. There are definitely some great things to be found in gentle parenting, but I disagree with the method as a whole.
