00:00 Intro
00:58 How do you deal with pest prevention? 02:38 Could you move with your current plant collection?
04:41 What does a plant emergency look like for you?
05:52 Do you have a wish list and if so what's on it?
06:36 Do you go through stages where your plants are more draining than rewarding?
09:05 What are your favourite vining/climbing plants for moss poles?
09:45 What kind of plants you think are interesting but do not care to get in your collection
10:56 What are the "best" plants ( species etc.) to keep in lower light
12:56 If you could make a hybrid of any 2 plants, which would you choose?
14:16 What’s your thoughts on people telling you that they purchased a plant because of you?
15:24 Is it possible to grow plants so big in a dryer climate?
16:25 Can plant XYZ size up?
17:42 Are you planning to downsize to make room for a coveted plant?
19:17 When you water your plants, does it matter to some water & liquid fertiliser mixture gets on the leaves?
20:31 Leaves open with scars and markings. How can we avoid this?
23:21 What features would make you most drawn to buy them (barring any constraints like price and space)?
25:00 While most men are so inclined into sports, why do you think most men now grows interest into plants and gardening?
27:11 What are the most affordable & easy care rare houseplants?
29:03 Do you think you will ever get tired of the plants/aroids? And not in the burnout sense, but in the "seen it all" kind of way.
30:17 Something that is seemingly lacking in the plant community right now, what would it be?
33:43 What are your thoughts on self-watering moss poles instead of water bottles?
35:37 How come your Epipremnum got root and stem rot if you just water the pole and not the mix in the pot?
37:50 How did you come up with the idea of chopping the top of a moss pole and repotting it?
40:44 Would you consider make/change all your moss poles in the future into plastic backings?
41:44 Have you ever tried making a moss pole that had a support inside?
42:38 What to do once the plant reaches the top of the moss pole and you don’t want to chop and extend the pole? Do you recommend air layering?
44:30 What are your opinions on pricing plants? What should make something more valuable or less valuable. How much should a cutting differ from the price of a whole plant?
45:37 Do you generally up-size your pot from a 14 cm to 20 cm once a pole extension is required?
45:46 If the roots of your billietiae are growing out of the top of the moss pole, how can you extend the moss pole? I understand that the billietiae is a slow climber, so it will take a while for this plant to reach the top of the moss pole. But by then it seems that you would have very long roots coming from the top.
46:53 All about Brad
50:58 Would you consider giving Brad another cat mate?
51:49 How do I stop Brad from eating or playing with my plants?
53:54 What is it like to live with so many plants & a cat?

I loved your answer to the question about more and more men becoming plant daddies, I personally love collecting, propagating and caring for my plants because it is an unbiased hobby that doesn’t discriminate!! Regardless of your race, gender identity, religious background, upbringing, plant caring skill level or current situation… a plant will still grow (or die…) without any judgement 🪴 …unless it is my Purple Shamrock… lord knows she is a diva!! 😂

I'm cracking up at your answer to the what's missing in the plant community. I love that you aren't putting up with any bad manners or demanding viewers. I can't imagine how much time you'd spend messaging if people could just ask you the same questions day after day. Thanks for sharing your experience. Your plants are inspiring. And please pet Brad for me.

Thank you!! If i’d add it all up i have probably spent a full day just telling people what fertiliser I use :D it gets very boring eventually trust me :D that’s why I decided to make this channel, so I can answer questions more efficiently rather than 1-on-1 but some people aren’t happy they don’t get special treatment … :D

I love it when you get worked up, Jan. I hope more KZfaqrs (in earth years) see you address incivility. The number of people who spend five minutes falling over themselves with apologies for falling out of love with a plant, so that they don't get roasted in comments, baffles me. Anyway, today I'm taking the inspiration I've gotten from you and am making my first moss poles. I terribly excited to watch these plants mature. Thanks for all the hard work. I love your answers/attitude/personality as much as I love your ‘mischievous boy smile’ & dancing plants. When your critics insist on going for you, just remind them that we’re all guilty if we grow a single plant indoors; there are no plants that are technically indoor plants…they all come from outside😆 As always, thanks for sharing your videos!

Thanks Greg :) the ‘haters’ don’t even bother me - those are clearly trolls just looking out for attention so I was contemplating to not actually address it to not give them any of my time but felt like it also needs to be called out. What really gets me aren’t the ‘haters’ but people that are plain rude demanding & entitled. I just don’t know where they get that attitude from & wonder if they understand that we’re all just people ?! 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve definitely bought a plant because I’ve seen it on your channel, and I’ve added others to my wish list for the same reason. Thank you for sharing your personal experience and a bit more about yourself too! You handled those questions really well and this hobby is definitely for everyone and anyone who loves plants. The right question would have been: why more people are growing plants? It definitely brings me joy watching them grow every single day and the ever changing landscape is inspiring. I have upped my plant game with your tips for sure! And you should totally get an orchid, I would suggest a phalaenopsis Schilleriana, the mottled leaves are still a beautiful feature when not in flowers. And the flowers are gorgeous and lightly scented 🌸 thanks again, it was a fun video!

I recently found this channel and since then have fallen in love with Jan and his knowledge. I have binge watched a large amount of his videos and continue to binge watch to see what I have missed out on. But this video has really irritated me by the stupidity in some of these peoples questions. Jan's channel has been out longer then i have been watching and I knew the answers to most of these questions without asking, so these people clearly haven't put in the time to educate themselves. And then there are the people that are clearly haters or just ignorant in realizing how rude their questions truly are. Jan, you handled these questions very well and I think it is safe to say that for each hater you come across by putting yourself out there, there are multiple handfuls of people that truly love what you are doing and appreciate all the work you put into your channel. ❤❤❤

Ciao from Tuscany: Love the videos, especially the question and answer ones...plant lovers anywhere in the world are all on the same page...we love our plants, do our best for them, and worry about them just like children...you have certainly added to the wealth of knowledge available about house plants, especially the ones that might need a bit more attention there in Sydney. You have pretty much the same conditions that we have here in Italy...very hot summers, and short but sometimes intense winters..it's the changing light that presents a challenge...but we keep trying. Please keep up the wonderful work...very much enjoyed...and a big hug to Brad...loved your comment about having 7 of them if you could...we have 3 here at the house, and 6 more down in the village...all just wandering folk that found us, ,loved the food, and stayed...and you are right...above 2, it really doesn't matter, as the work is the same in the long run...and the creatures have a family to take care of them. Stay safe, and we look forward to the next chapter!

I like what you are doing and how you explain you have to experiment. And it is reasuring you make mistakes and get root rot as wel but saved that plant. I am trying a shorter 40 or 50cm moss pole for the first step, my plants are very small, and progressing to 80cm for subsequent poles (depending on speed of growth and internodal space). That way I wont have to many long empty moss poles and I can see how fast plants grow in my house and the time it takes to get to the top of the pole.

Great video! I have quite a few plants and had a cat, Kittykat, not a very original name, who was loved alone. She is missed very much. She never really showed any interest in the plants. She would occasionally bat at the hanging leaves of a Ponytail Palm, but that was all. So I think that you are right about the behaviors of the cats and they will either ignore the plants or have to be kept away from them for their own good! Once again I really appreciate your videos. Hopefully you'll keep doing more of them.

Jan... I thank you for sharing stories about Brad's life and his family. Now I can understand about the inner bond between you and Brad. Brad can feel that you really love him. Both of you look so happy. We love Brad too...😻😻😊 When I looked at the question list below, I didn't see Marisa's question that I liked too. But...when I watched your video...I was surprised! because you answered it. Jan..Thank you...😊.. I'm currently having a tiring period in understanding my plants which I started 6 months ago. I have a lot of new things to do. Previously I lived in an area with hot temperatur, while now I am in a cold area ( I live around the foot of Mount Merbabu, Central Java) so that my plants that used to grow in hot area, experienced a schock here. That's right, Jan... I'm starting to pay attention to the origin of the plants being raised. For example.... I once ever bought plants that were sold at the market near my house ( only some of them grew well because the plants were raised in the area near the top of Mount Merbabu.) During staying here, I often get gifts....beautiful plants from my neighbors and relatives The plants are easy to look after because they used to grow here. Yesterday morning I and my brother went out to a nursery ( which is quiet far from my house) to buy planting medium, pots, compost and new plants (because philo and monstera stock ran out, I bought 3 pothos and 1 Jade plant). I hope they can grow well. (Jan... It's 01.10 am right now (still raining). I just finished watching your video because since the afternoon ( 8 yours ago) when you uploaded this video. It was raining so heavily accompanied by lightnings. The internet signal suddenly stopped. I was only able to start watching your video again at 9.30 pm....and then the signal stopped again. Jan...If I can't immediately join in writing a comment, It's ceritain there isn't internet signal here. Because I live in an area like this, having opportunity to watch your video (that I need the most) is a Great Joy!!... This feeling may not be felt by others who can have good internet signal. Jan... I really like this Q&A video...very inspiring for me. Jan...Thank you so much....🙏🥰💚 I still can't believe...philo, monstera, pothos, syngonium, alocasia, anthurium grow here in my yard...and in my heart❤️😊...

Jan.... This morning the clouds are still thick up in the sky. Maybe it will rain again. The air is so cold here. The atmosphere looks somber. I look forward to watching your new shorts video that can make me smile again.. Jan, Thank you...Cheers!..🥰💚

Jan....Although the gray clouds are still visible in the sky, the sun is shining brightly. Right now I'm in my yard. I see all my plants are happy to welcome the warmth of the morning sun. Today I and my brother will be so busy looking after our tomato plants that need repotting ( need larger size of polybags). We grow them organically. I look forward to watching your new shorts video. Jan....Thank you so much for everything..😊.. I like your great ideas. You are so inspiring!...👍🥰💚😊

I really enjoy your channel. I get fungus gnats from time to time. I use mosquito bits granules. I put them in my moss poles and it’s a slow process, but I have found great success with that. I buy them off amazon. Thank you for your videos. I have been staking up my plants all wrong for years since I’ve watched your video I now have all my plants on moss poles😁

Firstly, Thankyou for providing us with your knowledge and experience. We can only build upon our knowledge by listening to others experiences. I have been binge watching your videos after killing every monstera in my care and I feel like together with what I have learnt and what I have heard from you and others I ( a new monstera) might have a chance! I am so terribly sorry that there are many others that are greedy, selfish and rude. I know that is can be disheartening and a big kick to stomach when others treat you in this way, but for every one of the negative ppl there is at minimum 2 positive ppl in their place. Your story of adopting Brad truly warmed my heart and the love you have for him is very evident. We now have 4 cats in our family and my husband and I always say we don’t choose cats, they choose us. We went to look at one cat (a pirate kitty who was a little older and needed a home) and left with an extra simply because she farted on my husband- he loved her since then. Turns out she had tummy issues that were solved relatively quickly at the vets, but i think she knew we would take good care of her and love her. Thank you Jan and Brad and I hope 2023 is a great one for you both!

Monstera Peru is relatively new on the market and it's hard to find big plants. I have a lot of it but they are few months old now. But I found a guy on KZfaq who has his Monstera Peru climbing all over the walls in his house. This is enough for me to know this plant can grow really big. Not very likely to grow bigger leafs if you aim at this. But yes, I believe it can take over your house if you can give it enough light and water. I can't wait to see my Monstera Peru plants get bigger. It puts out new growth even in the middle of winter. It's not the fastest grower but it's steady grower. You can tell is my favorite.

Great Q&A Jan, as always, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I could listen to you sharing about your plant hobby indefinitely. I for one have definitely been influenced by you and Nora The Leca Queen by quite a few plants, but particularly regarding growing aroids and making moss poles, and homemade aroid mixes. I've been a plant mummy for many many years but I just didn't consider not even a Swiss Cheese plant before you two popped up on my feed. Now I have one AND an Adansonii, and a P Pink Princess - yay! My plant collection and wishlist has definitely grown massively since summer 2022, for sure🙈 I do love your stunning banana plant (which is on my wishlist) and I did purchase the oxalis triangularis corms and start it towards the end of summer - all due to your influence! As for the negative comments, I have a feeling that those types of characters are only aggressive and seeking to engage in arguments with content creators whilst hiding behind the safety of their keyboards... block and delete, moving swiftly on! Thank you for sharing Brad's story - how sad, but grateful that he didn't pine as a result of the loss of his sibling.

You've inspired me to try moss poles. I just started with one camposportoanum, because I'm not sure if it's right for me. I have plants in semihydroponics so I'm a bit careful of keeping the moss pole in lechuza and a constant reservoir will be viable :)

Oh I love brad’s story, I also have 2 ginger cats and fortunately they are now not interested in the plants. I do keep an eye on them to make sure they are not eating any plants. My cats are also rescues. I think that’s the best way to get them if you want 7 cats. My limit is 3 cats for the size of my house.

I love your pragmatic no nonsense style. Stay you., thank you. You’ve given me really useful culture advice for aroids. I bet my 36 yr old thaum…it was p. Oh, little detail. I think if you chop Monstera Peru it will not grow as fast. I feel it's better to leave it alone to grow out of control and when it gets wild prune it for better looks. If you chop it often it will take a long time before it puts new growth. The vines I didn't chop are growing and put out new leafs readily while the ones I chopped took months before they put out new growth. That's my 50 cent ot this plant.

Awesome Q&A! For me I have 2 cats. One could care less about plants but the other loves to eat my plants. I’m just lucky she’s a senior and she doesn’t jump very high (she’s nervous to even jump in a chair😂) so I can keep my toxic plants high up and my non-toxic ones more mid height (they are still out of the way for her so she still cannot get them)

In regards to what's lacking in the plant community, I think you're absolutely right. People being judgemental and criticizing each other is definitely something that needs to change. Methods and environments are as diverse as people, which is how we all learn and grow. That being said, there are so many amazing people in the plant community that truly just want to share their love of the hobby with like minded others. Despite its pitfalls, I truly enjoy engaging with other planty people. I do hope the question about your plant getting root rot was more geared towards figuring out how it happened in order to avoid it, rather than people judging you or your methods! Root rot can happen in any environment that involves roots, moisture, bacteria and substrate. Be it organic or inorganic substrate. You may not even need substrate. Do air plants get root rot? Probably.

Because you are an influencer I was glad to hear your reservations regarding plastic backed plant poles. I not only think plastic is ugly, but am concerned with its continued over use and its effects on our environment. So far I have not heard any utuber express any concerns regarding this. When are we going to discourage its use instead of finding new ones? I am definately interested in someway to keep moss poles moist longer. I know you will circulate whatever you find that is also eco friendly.
