Such a fun Q & A ! : ) That's really awesome that you mentioned being into Khruangbin ! They've been becoming one of my faves too over this past year or so. I just happened to stumble upon your channel a little earlier today, so I haven't had much time yet to really dig into all your work (but I definitely plan to) but I'm really glad that I found your music and channel just based on what little bit that I've gotten to see thus far. I've really been digging your playing & singing, and you've done some seriously excellent covers.. just your choice of covers in itself is pretty stellar. I think my favorite of the cover vids thus far is the cover of Crazy that you made with Allison Young (goodness gracious, that guitar arrangement really shines & your voices are so lovely together in the harmony sections). I also really loved your vid about exploring and trying to nail down Nick Drake's tone. That was a really special one to me, as I'm also a huge fan of his work and his style myself, and I don't see many people exploring his set-up and playing techniques too often. That pretty much made my day today

Thanks for another enjoyable video Josh. I really enjoyed watching your process for multi-tracking all the parts of your videos as I am just starting to do the same thing - I started this process back in the early 1970's (lol) with a Sony TC-252D 4 track sound on sound reel to reel tape recorder with which I was able to tape record each part and instrument by layering the tracks on top of each other - it cost me about 3 weeks pay back then to buy it, but it was pure magic. I am now beginning to record music again using today's equipment (much much easier), and I'm having the time of my life doing it! I'll be 70 at the end of July. Enjoy your life - it never gets old, even if you do.

My wife loves you (well, strongly appreciates your songwriting and playing), and my 12-year old violinist son paused for a long time in front of the speakers and listened intently. New fan. ...I'm also very sad that in mid-July we'll be in the North Cascades when you'll be in Portland, so I won't be able to come to your concert. I'll be there in spirit. I didn't understand the question :| . Can you explain it, please?
@jamesbarros950
@jamesbarros950 3 жыл бұрын
@@amaro3005 I think a lot of us like to tell ourselves we're sincere, that we really care about what we're doing. But we don't find time for disciplined practice. Instead we play when we feel like, don't challenge ourselves, don't use metronomes, don't build technique. If we are truly sincere, it will be reflected in our practice, and our practice will be reflected in our technical proficiency when playing.
@amaro3005
@amaro3005 3 жыл бұрын
James, thank you so much for your answer. So, do you and him mean that some guitar players in USA culture say that they are sincere or play music sincerely and use it as an excuse to not playing complex things? If I'm right, your explanation helped me a lot to understand his point. Thanks.
@jamesbarros950
@jamesbarros950 3 жыл бұрын
@@amaro3005 That's close, but I do want to nitpick one little thing. I don't think it needs to be complex, and I don't think he'd make that argument either. Complex music is fun, but technique exists in the simplest music. Things like working with a metronome to have good rhythm or ensuring you're not buzzing because of bad left hand work, or knowing where you can solo over a piece so you have real freedom when you're playing. These apply to everything. You feel them in all music. So I think this is less a call to sophistry, and more an argument that if you really love the music, then you should consider enduring more challenging practice which helps you to better express yourself on the instrument, be it in complex music or simple music.

YOU ARE DEAD RIGHT ABOUT PRACTICING SINGING AND PLAYING AT THE SAME TIME. I've been telling that to people forever, not necessarily about singing and playing, but about learning songs on the guitar, and it makes a huge difference. Slowing something down completely and practicing individual measures until you're able to play them all at a tempo that's musical in nature is fundamental in not only playing, but also learning.

Question: How did the first Graceland concert in Leicester go? Answer: Absolutely brilliantly. Knockout performances all round. Josh was flawless and the Gospels choir full of energy. The rest of the band were all top talents, fine drumming and Nicola on everything brass. Fret less bass starred in two versions of Call Me Al and second guitar excellently played. Keyboard was the best too. This tour is going to be a blast. Thanks for a great unforgettable evening.

Greetings from Denmark! You did mention Django.. well this is my story: My dad and I had to do a track some time ago (a year or two) for a project. We got together, had a sixpack or three or four, and we recorded a good track, that later placed a good posistion in a competition at the time. The morning after, when we woke up, I showed him the video you did with Bergera, singing "All of me". In my family, we always listened to Django from time to another, but at this very moment my dad an I decided to get serious about it. That exact vid started it all! We went on examining gypsyjazz, soon bought (cheap) selmer-maccaferi-copies, taking lessons, learning about gear and stuff..! Today: Last month we did a paid gig for a national day at the local city, at friday we have a gig at a stage with a live big screen. People call us because they want us to play for them! That's just amazing! So.. thanks! And thanks again! You are making life better, funnier and more giving for us! Your vibes shines at us, and we are relaying them to our audience! Thank you!
