On August 16, 2023, I saw the Gozan-no-Okuribi (Bonfire of the Five Mountains) as Kiyomizu-dera Temple was lit up at night for the Sennichimode (pilgrimage). The Gozan-no-Okuribi in Kyoto is a traditional event to send the ancestors back to the other world after their return from the Bon festival.
From Kiyomizu-dera Temple, we could see the left Daimonji and the torii gate, and although the bonfires were small to the naked eye, it was nice to see them off with so many people.
Also, 500 wind chimes in the precincts of Kiyomizu-dera Temple were swaying as if they were burning in the wind.
