Can one safely use ice from an iceberg in a drink? Yes, one can. In January 1979, we needed some ice for our drinks at our barracks. One guy suggested we get ice from a berg about 200 feet from the pier. It became stuck there when the bay froze. So we walked out there with an ice pick and some large plastic trash bags and chopped us some ice. 44 years later I'm still here with no side effects.

How many kayaks are sunk by hitting icebergs?

None. Neither kayaks nor icebergs move fast enough to cause a collision between a kayak and an iceberg to make the kayak sink. Calving icebergs can damage kayaks. If the kayak is under the calving berg, the berg could crush the kayak. If the kayak is further from the berg, the resulting wave could capsize the kayak.
