However the Tesla screen misinterprets this and leaves the passenger side to whatever it was and let's you twiddle around with it as it doesn't matter at all

If your car already had hands free, it should not need an extra mic. Hence why touching on the screen works. This is a limitation of the unit and the stock assistant functionality.

On the q50 2014 the reverse camera does not automatically turn on when you go into reverse you manually have to press the camera

Thank you for watching. Once I get the usb installed, I will test the wired CarPlay. I think you need to change a setting with how the phone syncs to CarPlay when you change the connection type. I have not figured out how to change the Home Screen a lot. If you change the soft buttons up top, it does change the widgets at the bottom. So on this video, at the end I changed the intouch to be a shortcut up top. This then correlates to that widget at the bottom changing for music. The widget is useless though. Squarewheels has a video for changing the appearance of those widgets or split screen on IG a couple weeks ago. He might have posted on KZfaq as well

So actually funny you say that. I was under full impression that that wired usb harness allowed for wired CarPlay. I have never seen a unit have wireless CarPlay, but not wired. But main reason why this is so funny, is because I am walking out the door right now to hook up that harness hoping this would give me this functionality.

@@wolfpack9695 failure. So it turns out supposedly according to AUCar, this Qualcomm chip is not compatible with wired CarPlay. Basically, if you have an iPhone, it is completely useless wired other than charging as a whole. But….. if you sync via Bluetooth first and then build the trust over wireless with CarPlay, you can disconnect the Bluetooth and it will stay working via the wireless connector somehow. Not sure what that function does for me but that is what I found working with them atleast.

Q50’s came out in 14, which is why that is the year listed. I cannot say for certain if this works on the hybrids though. I would think it would, but the hybrids were a little odd when when they first came out. I “think” it’s good, but I can’t make the recommendation for you to spend $1k on it. If the dash is the same in the qx models, I believe it should. If not, you would need to see if they make a replacement dash unit for those

I have never used the Infiniti app on either of my Q50’s so no clue. I touch is still very much present though

It causes an issue with mine at points. I just have to disconnect mine when my wife gets in for a more seamless switch.

I wouldn’t call it the best experience by far. But it is convenient. I find it hard to believe your carrier just handed you free service and a new phone. I’d love for that to happen to me, but not realistic

@PMPerformance well, they sure did. BTW, I've been with my carrier for over 30 years. I'm grandfathered on a lot of things with them. But to silence your reality of my experience, let me enlighten you. It was a promotion to add a new line. That new line was good for a phone( just happened to be that phone as well as an iPhone to choose from). To keep my same number and leave the new line number with the AU (in case you are unaware), you can switch numbers to whichever phone line you have), for whatever line you want. So I did that! My reality .

@randeharris2760 I am not sure how they benefit from giving you a free phone and a free line? Or do you mean free activation and a free phone for activating a new line? If so, they obviously make it back in monthly subscription fees (which does not equate to free) Typically even the phones are not free unless you are on a signed contract as well which I was not sure carriers even did anymore. What carrier are you on?

Why would you even want this if you have a 23? You have CarPlay already You should ask the manufacturer this.

It won’t. I have the Bose as well. With the EQ tweaks you can get a much better sound out of it

CarPlay works pretty good. I don’t wTch KZfaq in my car because I am focused on driving, so I can’t answer that question. It might over Bluetooth, but can’t imagine it will if using a hotspot

Everything that OEM had is still avail as far as I have found. I have not seen anything missing really other than the animations when changing the drive modes. Now I will say if you want the OEM style views, you would have to launch intouch to get to them and see them.

An android tablet in your dash will not fix electrical/module problems. All this thing is, is a tablet with a cute overlay and some oem plugs to bypass your bottom screen.

The touchscreen itself is not an issue. It’s if the DCU itself isn’t functional that it would be an issue

I believe I discussed this in detail on this video or the other one. I primarily use this via CarPlay because it’s cleaner and easier. I have connected via my hotspot already and works fine, just not as pretty and refined as CarPlay. LTE would work the same way if you have the dongle installed

I am not sure what you mean exactly? You want to forget your OEM Bluetooth connection though and connect directly to the new unit. You will likely have issues if you are still trying to use onboard bluetooth

@@PMPerformance The problem is that if I am listening to the radio, and I receive a call, many times I pick up the phone, and the radio continues to be heard instead of the call. Other times, when the radio stops and the call is heard, when it ends, the radio is not heard again.

@Lockley2010 I would say this is due to utilizing both units. I don’t listen to the radio, so I cannot be of any help here. But utilizing just the android unit will alleviate your issues I am sure. Switching back and forth will be probpematic

Lilely causes are missing the connector at the usb area in the center console and a plug that runs down behind the unit to the main harness. I think I touched on this kid video

So it’s not useless, it does charge. That is all though. Same for the external usb harness, if you have an iPhone, all you can do it charge now

Yes you can plug a jump drive into it. That was my plan since the iPhone won’t work as a usb device with this

I did not see a touch point sync option, so it may just be that the screen is unresponsive or the button not mapped or to the correct application if my guess.

So what would be my next move? I have restarted and factory data reset the unit, but to no luck. I did notice that during the factory data reset process, it showed the word resetting, but instead of being below the reloading animation, it was above it and upside down.

It was working fine at first, but after factory data reset, its off. And the screen seemed to start at landscape mode bfore correcting itself to portrait mode

Bought it from some guy on offerup, first install was good, and everything worked at first. It wasnt until after I factory data reset the device, that is when the issues popped up

Bluetooth is like using your oem head unit. You can play music or CarPlay from you phone Hotspotting or lte allows you to use the u it as your phone and run apple directly from it. Remember, it’s just an android tablet. You either use the tablet as a tablet and give it its own signal, or you use another device for signal and just use this for the screen

I can connect the Wi-Fi to my phone’s hotspot and pair my phone via Bluetooth but then the Wi-Fi keeps turning off. I naught the unit from Rob at SquareWheels, but he cannot seem to diagnose the problem. Any idea’s. Also, even though I have the keep Wi-Fi on feature turned on. I have to turn Wi-Fi on when I power up the car. If the Bluetooth connection to my car is off, I do not run into these issues.

I am not sure I understand. You EITHER use your phone as a hotspot, OR you use it via Bluetooth. You cannot connect via both.

@@PMPerformance I connect it via Wi-Fi to my phone’s hot-spot in order to gain access to the internet for cellular data transfer, but I cannot take called hands free unless I pair my phone to the MK6 via Bluetooth tooth. Is there another way to receive and respond to calls and text messages without pairing the phone via Bluetooth? An app I can download maybe?

@@billwhite7551 if you need the unit to work as an extension of your phone, you need to Bluetooth it. If you want it to be it’s own complete separate entity, that is when you use wifi hotspot or a sim in the unit. For what you are trying to do, Bluetooth with CarPlay or android auto is your answer. I have since learned there are some decent limitations with this thing. Once you know the limitations, your expectations are lowered

@oxmis you cannot run multiple radios at once. So hotspot and Bluetooth at the same time is not supported (on your phone)

@timecapsulefoto8415 I am not to optimistic. While this unit is not bad, it’s an 3rd party coded Android device from a sketchy Chinese company. These devices will never be perfect.

Yea overall it works pretty well with minimal aggravation.

It works as OEM. It still uses the oem mic, so no issues there. Audio is as good as oem if not better for the fact that you have more control with the DSP. Really no qualms there I can think of. While I have not had much phone calls in the car myself, I have talked to my wife when she is driving, and no issues to report on that front.

Everything works perfect on my system.

I forget if I went over this or not, but you would want to shut off Bluetooth on intouch.

You need to use CarPlay or android auto. The hotspot is so you can use apps natively on the screen, but your phone is a phone. They do different things

@@PMPerformance unfortunately I've been having issues with AA. It's not connecting. Any suggestions? It was working yesterday.Will there be a reason though when someone does call me their phone number comes up on my screen but not the name.

@@PMPerformance I've tried wired and wireless. The hotspot is turned off when trying to connect to AA. The device is recognizing my phone because it shows it's connected with Bluetooth but AA just doesn't load

I cannot say for AA as I am an apple user, but sometimes CarPlay can get whacky too. I haven’t had issues in a few months though. Pretty sure the hotspot needs to be off though. I would try to change the mode and change back to AA and see if it changes back

@trsskater the reason I ask is because I know the aftermarket cameras there is a camera orientation setting. So I would go under settings and see if there is something for the camera to adjust the orientation. If not, hit the camera button on the console if you have one and see if you can change in there. If none of those work, I would go under the car settings and make sure the approximate setting for LHD for your car is set maybe?

I cannot answer that unfortunately as I remote start with a key fob. I thought they killed off the intouch mobile app years ago? I would assume the answer is yes though as Intouch is still very present as it is the main underlay. Remember, this is only a fancy overlay/piggybacked screen. So all the oem functionality is still present

@@stevejackus3190 this would not as this is a separate technology. Since this is just a tablet on a breakout harness, it gives you access to get into the old UI via the tablet, but it will not add additional functionality that is not currently available. Kind of a guess, but my best logic at a response.

Man, I just got done seeing the video and I’m very disappointed not in the video but in the head unit or tablet the tablet should be worth no more than $500 like you guys stated it’s from China so trying to rip people off for 1000 it’s crazy when it doesn’t work properly

This is one of those I can kind of justify the price. If it were just the tablet, I agree. But the fact it’s ALL plug and play along with all the extra harnesses, camera, sim tray ect and the OEM look bezel, I can’t argue with the price. My Alpine ILX for my Vette was like $900 without all that extra stuff. I was closer to $1k in for a “basic” double din. Not basic, but compared to this it is.

@PMPerformance I can only use seat heaters if I first turn Hvac on then when I press drivers heated seat the passenger seat heat is changed

It’s not perfect, but likely a ton better than the older models. Wireless CarPlay sometimes does not connect, but wireless CarPlay in general is problematic. Otherwise, it’s been pretty stress free to be honest

@@PMPerformance oh wow I thought that at least carplay could be controlled by the dial. Kinda a deal breaker for me…

I never really used that dial, so I even had to go out and check. Remember, this is really just a tablet with a fancy UI overlay. While all the functionality works otherwise, making a directional dial work externally to a tablet is difficult. There need to be software mapping in the code for it. It’s robust, but not that robust. While it is limited In some ways, I would not let this solely be your deal breaker. The advantage of CarPlay as a whole out weighs the dial not being used for directional controls

@@PMPerformance so if you move the dial to the left or right, nothing happens? Also what about the steering wheel controls? If you press the speak button while CarPlay is open, does Siri wake up? How is the connection with carplay? Is it reliable all the time or sometimes it disconnects? I appreciate your answers a lot, trying to decide before friday to buy it or not?

@@julioperezm2182 the center dial does nothing but volume up and down. The voice button does not wake up Siri, one via the Siri shortcut on the screen. CarPlay is decently reliable. If you use the same phone all the time and don’t leave the car with the radio on with the phone out of the car, it’s dead nuts reliable. If you inject those other issues, it can be a little bit of a pain

I forget the full functionality of the top screen, but I think as long as your bottom screen is fine, you are good to replace with this “Tesla “ style unit even though the top unit stays in place.

@@johnmayo4889 there is no fix for that. Hvac needs to be on for the seat heaters to work.

Nah, probably just in a funky state. It happens sometimes and can be a pain to get working again. Restarting the car and letting it resync usually fixes it. Otherwise forgetting the Bluetooth neighborship and allowing to relearn does as well I have wireless CarPlay in 2 cars right now, and it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Wired is certainly more reliable, but I found out after the fact this thing won’t do wired CarPlay.

@PMPerformance I did a reboot on mine because it wouldn't load the carplay app anymore. Now it looks like factory reset, but the wired carplay works kinda

You do not have this model then, because wired CarPlay will not work. Rebooting does not do a factory reset either
