BlkHwkGator Yeah I wasn’t going to waste time with the crazy prep this time. You might have missed me say that. Going full upgrade so for a temporary clean up, some brake cleaner and wire brush go a long way. If you’re going for long term durability, a thorough dousing of brake cleaner and primer are a good route to go for sure.

No that is the parking brake adjustment screw shown. The access hole in the rotor allows you to turn that screw while the rotor is on the hub for proper adjustment. There are some videos out there showing the process if you’re interested. You are correct, the parking brake setup on this car functions in the same way that a drum system works-expanding the brake shoes to make contact with the rotors.

The only thing I’m seeing too different is the powder coated backing plate which is pretty cool. The price increase isn’t all that much, so is go for it. Might be the next set I try. Let me know how you like them. Happy Nee Year!

I like drilled too. Any cracks? Seems to be common problem and everyone's complaint. I mean If they crack after you get fair amount of use, then who cares. Can deal with it. But does make sense compromising integrity. So plain would be the most solid and durable. This is common sense or am I wrong?

It’s always been said that drilled rotors have a risk to crack. I don’t think any of the people talking about them cracking have ever actually had them crack-they just like to sound like they know something. BUT anytime you put holes in something solid, it can reduce integrity so if they are to get super heated, I could see there being a potential risk

I explained why I went with eline in the unboxing vid but the basic point is that these are temporary until I go big brakes and could not justify the additional $150 for geomet when the only difference is casting material. If they were 5 lbs lighter or something I would have gone that route but they are same weight and nothing about them would give substantially better braking performance.

I have not experienced it but an aggressive brake setup can be a bit noisy until warmed up. Sort of the nature of it. I suppose it’s possible that something else is causing it, but if they feel ok in the road, there probably fine

Motul dot 5.1 Geomet rotors are fine. They just have a “special” coating on them

Yes. I plan to do the upgrade in the spring/summer. That’s why I only went with rotors for now. I needed a brake upgrade for a couple mountain runs coming up, but am not yet in the market for wheels, so this was a good temporary move.

@@SpeedCultureStudios All right, I finally collected months and months of paychecks as I don't get paid for jobs I do unitl 4-5 months later. My company sent many checks this week. With that said I figured it would be ok to go ahead and order some brake rotors and pads for the fronts with hopefully some small brake caliper gain. As with the rear brakes most of the braking comes from the front brakes and the rear rotors and pads on my car are only 5 months old from brand new. I'm going to opt for the slightly higher in price/grade Goemet drilled/slotted rotors along with their R1 Concepts ceramic pads. Saw face book 25% discount code good until the end of Dec 2019. Lol-people like to dog the baby brakes, but they are still a solid, dual piston akebono that is better than 90% of cars out there. A good rotor and set of pads goes a long way!
