@@DestroyerWill yes you're correct that they probably had access to the material that would be covered somewhat. that's why there's constant breaks to add jokes and things like that, but to actually apply the amount of knowledge and make it entertaining is what's impressive.

An actual letter from the Italian front: "The enclosed leaflets were dropped by the Germans on the Italian Front in the winter 1944-45. They were very popular among our boys as souvenirs…" Seems like the German leaflets were just as demoralizing as the CIA ones.

Johnny Vegas is half right here. 'In 1977, Article 56 of the Protocol I amendment to the Geneva Conventions outlawed attacks on dams 'if such attack may cause the release of dangerous forces from the works or installations and consequent severe losses among the civilian population'. There is however an exception if 'it is used for other than its normal function and in regular, significant and direct support of military operations and if such attack is the only feasible way to terminate such support'.'

No one did it before because they're incredibly difficult to hit effectively. That's why they had to invent the bouncing bomb, being a cylinder with backspin, so they could drop it over the water on the approach and it would bounce into the dam from the side.

@@ADDodger Now if only we could get United States, Israel, Iran, Pakistan, India, and Turkey to ratify the Protocol 1 agreement... They are the last few countries that are fine with mass civilian casualties, evidently.

Jonny Vegas is correct - attacks on water infrastructure became a war crime after WWII. Dams were specifically mentioned in Article 56 of the First Additional Protocol (1977) to the Geneva Convention 1949. So dams used for drinking water and crop irrigation are protected. Not sure about hydroelectric dams.

I don't get the logic of the porn war? How would that damage or demoralize the enemy beyond being a mild irritance? They're hardly going to stop the war and just have a massive orgy.

floooooooooooooooood Because the Third Reich was insanely traditionalist in their morals. They despised the Weimar Republic for its degeneracy, thus flying porn all over them would have been an affront to their regime, as there was no way of controlling what people would be thinking about the,. And if you're a totalitarian, people thinking for themselves is the most terrifying thought imaginable.

It wasn't really effective but it causes dissent in the army as it either goes rampant, so you lose a level of control and discipline, or if you crack down on it there is now increased resources and effort put into controlling and monitoring your men (as well as resentment from those who had their porn taken from them). I'd also add that there was sometimes an effort in warfare to try to spread STD's through an army. The best known example of this would be the North Vietnamese rounding up women with gonorrhea and sending them south to fraternize with American troops, but STD's were an issue in WWII as well. The two may be related with the porn meant to encourage trips to whorehouses and spread such diseases, though I've never read anything confirming that these two methods were related. Wars are always fought in many ways and often in quite stupid ways, porn is clearly the latter.

@unkounify A girl is a "she". Use pronouns properly.
@samuellawrencesbookclub8250
@samuellawrencesbookclub8250 5 жыл бұрын
@@kaktotak8267 'They' is valid, also - it is gender neutral and therefore can apply to any person of any gender. Furthermore, although the, for it to work, one must assume that all the soldiers greatly effected by the porno-war were heterosexual, simple statistics would seem to suggest that a fair chunk of them were homosexual, and - therefore - their partners would be male, assuming they had partners. As such, the gender neutral pronoun seems more apt - we can hardly know the sexuality of all of the soldiers who fought in WW2, and though heterosexuals were assumed and therefore targeted, when talking of the soldiers partners, a gendered pronoun is not appropriate.
