it was so odd at the time, but looking back, it's much like a podcast with comedians just playing off each other and being amusing on their own FOR an audience, but without one present. They did a great job.

it's sort of surreal. but i remember how closed off our house was during that time. my wife has major health issues, so we absolutely locked ourselves down. i did the shopping alone, and i slept on a camping mattress in the closet so that i was isolated from her in case i did bring something home. scary stuff. but we made it through, and its nice to be able to do things together again.

i enjoyed it without the audience because it was more like a round table discussion between comics. anything funny being said was simply because that person was funny, and not because they were trying to get a certain response.

It’s misleading to say speed readers can read “1200 (or any large number) words per minute,” because the main strategy of “speed reading” is to read only a few words on each page. The Evelyn Wood method, if I recall correctly, is to move your finger down the middle of each page (neglecting the words near the margins), and to look only at the first and last sentence of each paragraph, only paying attention to key words. It’s a fast way to get a general idea of what’s being discussed in a chapter, but you won’t get many details.
@ghomerhust

you arent actually reading that many words, probably less than if you went line to line, because you are skipping so many of those words. i am one of those, like david mentioned, who reads in my head, often voicing out quotes for stories, which puts most of my reading at "vocal speed." so however fast someone would talk, that is how fast much of what i read is consumed. that being said, i can sit for days at a time to consume a really good book. i remember getting a new Crichton book from my mother for my birthday (i would send her stephen king for hers!) and i read the entire thing in one sitting, even foregoing meals. a literal "i cannot put it down" moment. by breakfast i was famished but well entertained!

One time I performed in a play with zero audience. We had opened on Friday and on Sunday nobody turned up. The director decided that we needed the extra practice and since were there already, might as well. Only did the first act though. Another time I showed up to see a play and literally doubled the audience.

That biblical quote about not swearing isn’t about profanity or taking the Lord’s name in vain. It’s about taking oaths on things I.e. I swear on my mother’s grave. Jesus said Don’t swear at all. let your “no” mean “no” and your “yes” mean “yes”.

i listen to a couple of mid level comedians that do a couple of crime podcasts. their delivery is excellent, and the subject matter is always very interesting. "crime in sports" and "small town murder." a light hearted twist on a usually dark subject. they're working on getting another podcast out where they read internet reviews of anything and everything called "your stupid opinions." they have some already recorded but are waiting on red tape type of stuff to actually release the episodes.

The first time I got to participate in a radio broadcast was in 1965, in high school when we had a live debate. We, the student audience, were told to clap when a card was held up, or to laugh when a different card was held up. This only proved to me how phony radio or television really was in real life. Turned me off show business, and I had planned on becoming a professional comedian. I had performed several "stand up" sets by this time. Never over radio or television though. After that I became a history teacher, who was well liked for his humor.

i think it has to do with your gut biome and the food you eat. my biome is really messed up because of my diet and pain management regime, so i have a lot of gas, especially at night. but some folks eat exactly what their gut expects them to eat, and it's already locked and loaded to deal with whatever comes in. that's why there is minimal to no gas. the gas happens when the gut has to work extra hard to run something through, and as that thing degrades, it gives off the gasses. people with insanely wide food tastes often have gas because your biome simply cant accommodate such a variety of materials coming through.

an increasing number of people care almost zero about all religion because it is quickly becoming irrelevant in modern society, especially in europe. it is viewed as a skewed, sexist, racist, homophobic, backward way of thinking by an increasing number of people worldwide, and this is for ALL religions. personally i am against all regulated religion, but i am very spiritual. no single religion dictates my actions, morals, etc. i am "nice to everyone" because that's simply what makes me happy.

I tell you not to swear at all, it is not about cursing or using bad words. This is about swearing in the name of G-d, such as in court, one can not say I swear by almighty G-d to tell the truth and so on. So when I had to attend court I did not do the swear bit, I instead affirmed that I would be telling the truth. Just thought I would try to clarify what was being actually said in the quote.

the term "swear" i think is supposed to be the modern version of "insult." because i can absolutely insult and disgust you by using ONLY medical terminology that is completely "ok" according to the bible. and it is far worse than if i were to call you something related to the "F" word. waaaaaay worse. like, might make you taste bile worse.

Matthew 5:34 is not about profanity. The swearing being referred to in the verse involves oath making. i swear by GOD, i swear on threat of punishment, etc. The sin of adultery is actually about oath breaking, adulterating contracts in order to break your word. And while that certainly does include breaking your marriage vows, it is not limited to just those vows. So to avoid the sin of adultery, better not to swear at all. let your yay be a yay and your nay be a nay.

Small dogs live much longer too; but the difference in bone length is dairy; it plays a large roll in tall cultures where less sun and more farming took place and even with the tall people in Africa who drank cow's blood. Since birth many of us have been fed primarily by the chicken and the cow. At eighty I"m doing rather well. Some of my relatives have absurdly long legs.

agreed, it is a nutrition thing. my family has been right around the 6 foot range for males for 5 generations prior to me, and im in my 40s. we always had good beef, lots of dairy, and worked outside as farmers for the most part. my father has smoked for over 40 years and still has nearly perfect heart health somehow, but i attribute it to the genes. id be in perfect health were it not for physical trauma due to car crashes and the like.

Most people of African descent are lactose intolerant, and many African races are as tall or taller than people of Northern European descent. Many African races are shorter though, as are Asian races who also domesticated cows. There's more to heigh than just dairy consumption.

Taking the Lord's name in vain has nothing to do with using his name as a swear word. It has to do with calling yourself a Christian but behaving like someone who isn't. And, the verse the elves gave you is taken completely out of context and they left half of it off. It's talking about making an oath as in a solemn promise using his name as the basis for the oath.

I got a hard smack on my shoulder for busting out in laughter when Leonardo Decaprio and the lady were in the water when the Titanic was sinking. Now I wasn't trying to be rude. In terms of the real-life situation with the poor decision-making skills of everyone involved in the whole matter including the ship that ignored their call for help combined with bad luck is seriously tragic despite the extra precautions taken since is tragic and wouldn't wish on anyone. But something he did just set me off and everyone in the theatre had turned their heads at me. My friend with his girlfriend sitting on the other side of my girlfriend at the time wasn't able to help laughing as well once I started. Gosh, she drove me nuts so much wanting to watch it all the time I decided to see how long the 3-hour vhs film tape was. I made it around my 725 sqft home one and 1/3rd around my parent's home. LoL I know some may think it was terrible for me to do and I ask them to chew on tinfoil for 3 hours while having their loved one ask you are we there yet for 3 hours straight and ask me if you would not do something to make it stop.
