Thankfully, we have now packages with recycling instructions on them. I noticed years ago (maybe 10?) when I pondered where to put paperish bag with a little window on it, and said out loud "I wish they'd just SAY where-- oh." and found the instruction. 😅

American "chocolate" is basically sugar and vomit with a little bit of cocoa on the side?

No, cheap supermarket chocolate is processed in such a way that it requires butyric acid for stabilization or has it as an additive because of association with its taste with chocolate. Butyric acid is found in other foods like onions, Brussels sprouts, and hard cheeses. Since it's a byproduct of dairy fermentation, it has found it's way into American chocolate. There are many places in the U.S. where you can buy high quality chocolate and many brands in supermarkets that don't contain it.
