This is an instrumental demo removed from studio sessions for Era Vulgaris. If you recognize the riff, it is because this is the reworked version of God is in Radio (Songs for the Deaf, 2002).

Oh, this beautiful odd piece really shows how Homme plays up against the rythm of the song. With his uncanny sense of timing he makes it swing and otherwise repetitive rythms change perspective and direction. He is a real master of this way of using the guitar. And I love it! Thanks for sharing.

He's the most innovative guitarist of his era...he does so much with so little and made rock danceable with his groove...add to this his songwriting and singing...unreal

he says in some interview from a young age when he started playing he intentionally wanted to play the weirdest things possible, and would experiment in trying to take notes out of scales, "most of my playing is about taking something away" in a music theory sense, this takes away the "relief" in a section of music where your brain is expecting what kind of note is supposed to come next in the pattern, or what note its supposed to end on, creating a lot more tension and actually creates a little bit of stress in listening, it creates dissonance where what you're hearing doesn't sound "right" but it still sounds "correct"... if that makes sense, and after while can be really enjoyable, this is why qotsa music has always sounded a bit strange and can have a lot of intensity or a really sticky groove. Homme also mostly plays in C standard which tunes down the guitar quite a bit and complements the mood

@@BigHotSauceBoss69 I've always had guitar teachers tell me that solos HAVE to be hummable. If you can't hum the solo, nobody will want to listen to it. I listen to that solo for Little Sister - there ain't no humming that solo and I can't get enough of it. And I'm clearly not alone.

@@BigHotSauceBoss69 That was the Noisey interview where they are sitting in a hot garage sweating and presumably stoned. Great interview, Josh says that if you want more than the joy of playing, you want too much.

Great comment. He’s a monster on the guitar but he’s a better songwriter. Josh constructs sonic masterpieces where every instrument plays its part (secret to being great). I actually heard Kyuss first and didn’t get it … once I heard QOTSA I became a fan for life (went back to Kyuss in the end).

Look up God Is in the Radio Fuse. It's a live performance of them doing this song with Mark Lanegan on vocals doing God's lyrics. It's bad fucking ass

Oh, *this* is where that goes and where this fits. Oidar Eht Ni Si Dog I don't believe a stronger wave of creativity has ever been harnessed by a musician or group of musicians than QotSA navigating its way through the first album to the Rated R material and then to SFTD. Beethoven couldn't hit harder.

@@whipshaw Don't what? Are you able to lead a conversation like an adult? You said it's a *song*. I said, it's not a song, it's an instrumental. Your reply "instrumental is also music" doesn't make sense -- I've never disputed the fact that instrumental is music, I said 'Cathedral City' is not a song.
