SideFX Labs, quite possibly one of the coolest add-ons that SideFX offers to Houdini. There is so much here but in this introduction I'm only going to cover a couple of my most-used nodes. If you are not familiar with this incredible set of tools, you'll want to be.

New tip: they added a OBJ/FBX importer that also catches the .mtl, it’s a life saver for me!

Great tips, thanks. Been playing with that tool shelf recently and it has so much to offer. The OSM data city building tools are amazing to name a few.

I noticed that almost everyone proficient in Houdini recommends on learning and using these tools! Verry informative video! Will you do some series on attributes and nodes (for learning and understanding)? :)

Thanks, I will deepen the Labs tools. I am new to Houdini after 5 years of C4D, I finally decided to make the qualitative leap. Looking at the world of SideFx now I realize that for Maxon 3 or 4 Labs tools would be enough to justify the sale of a new release ...... no words.

Thanks for the introduction man! Now, it would be really helpful if u can show some light on how to use wire or cloth solvers, to animate tangling ropes or wire or something. It will be pretty cool for someone who is new to Houdini... Cheers man..😊

yea, houdini is hard without understanding of trigonometry and vector math.. with that, aligning objects and creating spirals are really few lines of vex.. labs are very cool and i would like more tools independent of unreal/unity.. btw, at 6:55 click on "move centroid to origin" on transform node.. and if you wanna align to min/max of some axis, for example positive Y, drop another transform after centering.. and in that transform add expression to Translate Y: "bbox('../transform2/', D_YMAX)"

Hi! I love your Tutorials, but i've a question about... Automatic trim texture from SideFx Labs, could you explain how to use it ? :D

HA....good question. I'd love to know how to use it myself. I've been asking for a basic tutorial or even just basic documentation from the SideFX LABS guys and I haven't gotten any response. I have been having a hard time figuring it out myself as it's not particularly intuitive.

thanks for this tutorial, I wasn't aware of so many of the thing you show here. once I installed the sidefx labs shelf, I get Houdini console error, "opalias: The alias 'gamedev::sop_rizomuv_rectangularize' has the same name as an existing operator." any idea why?

Houdini and their better users guard their knowledge instead of sharing, especially in their discord. Even the paid tutorials are masters at teaching without teaching anything. It's amazing to watch, actually. It's a failure of SideFX that ppl never knew about it, even when it was called game dev toolset but, _it is the consequence of their culture._ Deal with it. Unless you get hired by some VFX house that Disney uses to polish their turds, you will never have access to learn how to use Houdini on a professional level. Even then, it takes on average 2 years to be brought up to speed. I heard this from 2 ppl. Disprove their assertions. I'm all ears. As a man with an adv degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, (so I had to earn MY degree) it ain't cause I fear the geometry spreadsheet or dot products. It's been over 2 years for me and my pyro and destruction sims, and they are only ok. I still see small differences between the film level stuff and my own.
