Episode Notes:
1. Captured from the Mega SG.
2. There are 2 revisions of this game with radically different cart sizes. While both occupy just 4 megabits, Revision 1 is on a much larger cartridge.
3. I did enjoy a few tracks of the music, but overall just felt this was a weaker effort than Castle of Illusion.
4. This was also on the Sega Saturn bundled with Castle of Illusion. It was one of the Sega Ages releases only available in Japan.
5. I've always kinda wished Sega would remake this like they did Castle of Illusion. I mean the gameplay is better suited for a modern exploration game, even.
6. While Sega would publish a few more Genesis Disney titles after World of Illusion, none of them were done by Sega proper. They were contracts outside of Sega, or Sega purchased western developers.
7. The Game Gear and Master System saw their fair share of Disney titles. A number of them featured Donald Duck as well.

@@SegaLordX In all seriousness I think I give a lot of leeway to the music and sound mixing, because the tracks and artwork were pushing the memory and processing as it is. They only had the basic channel for sound F/X while trying to handle the instrumentals. I think my favorite tracks are Transylvania, the archaeological ruins type music, the city and the middle eastern sounding one. There are a few tracks that aren't great tho.

Quackshot will always hold a special place in my heart. My mother found Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing too violent, so we returned it and bought Quackshot instead. Such a great game. And while the sound effects do indeed leave some to be desired, the soundtrack is overall excellent IMO.

Acquiring such improvements can also aid the player in defeating more difficult enemies and locating shortcuts and secret areas, and often includes retracing one's steps across the map."

Everyone is different though, so it really depends on what type of games your kid likes. I wasn't one to shy away from a challenge when I was young or games being slightly more complex. But easy to pick up & play games are something most kids would enjoy by nature more, I guess. Not much different from adults, really.

Don’t have kids before you’re 30. Enjoy your youth and stack as much money as possible before having kids. Life will kick into overdrive once that 1st kid arrives.
@thenonexistinghero
@thenonexistinghero 3 жыл бұрын
@@YacDiesel I don't think that's good advice. Children aren't a bother, they're part of your life. It's not going to be good for them mentally if their parents pretend that having children means they gave up their own life. The advantage of having children at a younger age means that you can actually properly play with them and that they're gone before you're old and can't do anything anymore. If you're waiting until your 35's or 40's you won't have much of a life after they leave, so there are both advantages and downsides to it. Waiting too long is just as bad as having them too early.
@YacDiesel
@YacDiesel 3 жыл бұрын
@@thenonexistinghero I respectfully disagree. Having children when you are financially sound, especially as a man, gives you a better chance to provide that child with a more stable upbringing as you are in a better position to provide for them. Also, as an older parent, you have more wisdom to impart as you have more life experience. My father had me at 35 when he was done with his education, well into hjs career, and making six figures. He was in the best position to provide his children with an optimal life and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Now contrast that with some of my friends whose fathers had them when they were in their early to mid twenties and barely knew up from down... With respect, your outlook on when people should have children, regardless of whether they are in the best financial situation, is a large part as to why we have some of the problems in the 21st century. If people would hold off and sacrifice a bit before having kids, the world we live in today would be much better.
@YacDiesel
@YacDiesel 3 жыл бұрын
@@thenonexistinghero Furthermore, 30 is not waiting “too long” as a man to have children as you still have vitality at that age...in addition to being in a better financial position than the average 25 year old.

Quackshot was my second game on the console and still one of my favorites. Graphics were incredible for a 1991 release and its relative difficulty was quite welcome actually. Combined with the semi-open world it really helped to feel like you truly were an explorer on a dangerous but also fascinating adventure all around the world. I wouldn't be so harsh on the soundtrack, the rendition isn't the best but some tunes really fit the theme and work pretty well (I love the overall atmosphere inside the great pyramid for instance).

Remember playing this game with my brother when I was young. Cherished memories.

I've been waiting for you to review Quackshot! Fantastic review and valid points. I will disagree with one thing; the music. I think it's fantastic, I still get goosebumps when I hear the Viking ship theme and the zipline over the city song. Incredible! Quackshot will forever be my favourite Sega Mega drive/Genesis game.

The sounds that happen after collecting the 5th hot pepper are great. I had owned this years ago, and nostalgia had tinted my memories of the sound FX and some of the music (I still like 75% of its music), but that hot pepper rampage noise is as good as it ever was.

I remember being sick and not going to school and renting this. I basically stayed in bed all day and finished this in one shot, good times.

I remember getting my genesis mark 1 bundle at sams club for Christmas forever ago and it came with sonic and this game hard at first, but if you give it a chance it will impress you. Great review.

I really appreciated this review! I do not agree with the assessment of the music. While not the best on the system, I find it a pleasing trip into nostalgia. The different tracks did give each of the stages additional atmosphere. I often fire up Audio Overload on the Mac to play the soundtracks from this game.
