My husband and I were setup on a blind date by my mother in 1985. He had a diving accident in 86 which left him a C4-6 quad. He was just 24 yo. He is now 59 and incredibly healthy! ❤️

I did some work for a guy who couldnt talk, well apart from grunting. he needed 24 hour care and everyone talked over him. So I sat on the floor in front of him, worked through what was needed, and asked him as many questions as I could . Amazed at how we got on so well, the guy thanked me via a tablet voice machine thing when I was doing the work a few weeks later - the thing of it is, he could communicate perfectly well if only people took the trouble to understand him, Poor sod. Good you two are making the best of it, too.

I think one of the biggest fears when it comes to this is other people. It's a real shame. I am actually writing a will that will include all kinds of things in case I can't communicate properly. I know people with whom a few days would make me want to kill myself, but since I am unable to do so, I need to make it very clear in my will that I can be at least left alone.

Thank you both for making this video! Such a great way to educate folks. I had the mitrofinoff procedure as well, and that alone gave me more independence than anything else. It was life changing. I did want to point out that you said quads are c1-c7 but there are actually 8 cervical nerves! I'm a c8 quadriplegic. It is a common misconception because there are only 7 vertebra in the cervical spine, but 8 corresponding nerves. The vertebra is just the bone that protects it. You can actually damage your vertebra (spine) without actually hurting the spinal cord. So confusing lol!

You are both an inspiration, to all walks of life. Our body is a shell, which in no way defines us. There are wealthy people who never have to shop for groceries, wash their own car, balance a check book (etcetera). Their 'ease of life' can be perceived to be better than my life. But, it is not true. It is just a different experience that i have, than they have. Both of our life's are valid, purposeful, and as meaningful as we make it to be. I am not the most handsome person, but that has nothing to do with who i am, and most importantly - my self worth, and how God values me!

We all know social media is, too frequently, used for "evil." However, videos like this are incredible. I was one of the ones, when I was younger, who thought "quadriplegic" was anyone like Christopher Reeve, where neither legs nor arms could move (though I knew a trach wasn't a given for quadriplegics). Jump forward to the internet and people making educational videos...so we all can learn injuries and illnesses are not cookie-cutter. I know most of us know that but videos like this fill in so many blanks and answer questions we didn't consider asking. I used the internet in the dial up days but reading about things doesn't always have the same impact as hearing people explain their own experiences so I, truly, thank you both, and all others, for sharing with, and informing, us.

hey guys, great video... I just by chance ended up clicking on this, and it was interesting to get info like this about your day to day issues dealing with being quadriplegics, and how you simply just answered those questions that many would feel rude for asking, but you did it so matter-of-factly that it took the stress out of both asking the question(s) and made it easy listening of the answers. My sport is drag racing, and there are more than a few quadriplegic drag racers out there.... in both door cars and dragsters. I just read a recent article about a guy who is also a quadriplegic who races in a specially built dragster with probably the same or similar hand controls that you guys use in your daily drivers, and the interesting part was his race seat that is powered to move up and down so he can get in and out of the tight dragster cockpit (they're hard to get in and out of even for someone who isn't physically impaired in some way). Maybe you guys should watch some drag racing videos, I bet you girls would kick ass (there are pretty much just as many women in drag racing as there are men btw, and in every age... I've had my ass handed to me by grandmas!). Would be fun to race you guys, or even better, to see you guys race each other!

I'm 76 years old and I've seen a lot in life. I was a Marine infantry officer for 21 years with 3 years in combat. I lost a of Marines killed and horribly wounded, some of which were way beyond the disabilities of these to lovely women. If I were single now (I'm 77 and I have a lovely wife of well over 40 years), I would be glad to help these women with whatever challenges they have if for no other reason to honor the Marines who were so horribly wounded in Vietnam and whose wounds were far more horrific with arms and legs blown off or unable to do anything to care for themselves including eating and drinking. Brain trauma injuries so severe that they have no idea who their families are. I so admire the courage and strength of these two women. I wish I could help them have a better and more enjoyable life.

Have either of you looked into methods of healing your injuries? 1) the surgery where they insert an electrical instrument that stimulates blood flow and electrical signals thru the spine. It's based in Australia and 60 Minutes Australia has a show on it. 2) IASIS Microcurrent feedback: this stimulates the brain to heal an injuries...great with strokes too. 3) Long term water only fasting: this triggers autophagy which cleans out the cell and heals the body. Both of you look and sound terrific. God bless you for taking lemons and turning them into lemonade:+) God bless~

Just wondering if you would mind me asking about a 'social dynamics' aspect. What goes through your minds if someone says something along the lines of... "oh, I should be more grateful that I can walk" or "wow, I'd be so depressed if such a thing happened to me"... they might continue with.... "you guys are incredible". What thoughts and feelings do such interactions have on you? What would you advise people to consider when asking or remarking about being Quadriplegics? (This is the only upload of yours that I have watched so if you have covered this already, please let me know and I'll have a look).
