The first heavy metal track i EVER heard. Was 1998, im about 10yrs old, computer room of my moms high school, ive put a cd from a magazine games into the pc, and theres a quake 2 demo. Starts the recorded gameplay, that one with a elevator doors openning and starting this MASTER PIECE.

Same here (although i was a bit younger), and i remember i hated it at first... fast forward to today and it's prob one of my fav tracks ever, and i would like to think that all that time playing quake 2 was my gateway into metal.

Quake II's soundtrack was a masterpiece by Sonic Mayhem. You guys have done it immense justice. Fantastic arrangement! I would straight out buy a complete Quake II OST from you, no question.

I am a real quake 1 Veteran. I loved quake 1 most. The sound of NIN was totally psychodelic. Behind every corner weird sounds and then this music... and quake 2 was incredible,too. I loved both soundtracks but today I mainly listen to Metal xD love and peace to all Quakers✌️

@@sonicmayhemofficial Awesome!!! The Quake 2 soundtrack is quite literally one of my top 5 OSTs of all time. Literally beats out a lot of industrial metal albums of the time, it's great. Thank you for creating perhaps one of the BEST video game OSTs and one of the best industrial metal albums of all time.

@@recastmanstudio it really cuts through the mix without taking too much from the guitars or drums. Honestly props to you because it seems like audio engineers have forgotten how to mix bass for metal tracks. What tuning does the bass use here? It looks like a 4 string so I’m assuming something like standard in B

@@punman5392 Yeah! In my case it's 5string bass without the first string, i'm using 5str packs, something about 130 or 135 for the 5str.

oh damn, this is so close it's like if you managed to get the original recordings for the game prior to compression. that's impressive. there's definitely a little original spin here and there but certainly nothing was diminished

This is a pretty good cover. When I did mine I tried making a more metal version of the original song. You took it a couple of steps further than I did. I really like it. Well done.

That BASS tho. Makes the whole track hit different. The crunch is real. Hopefully someday studio engineers will realize that metal sounds better with a good and audible bass and that they should stop burying the bass under heaps of guitar layers
