Quake Live - Close Range Rocket Dodging Trick

Once I started playing at a higher level in Reflex, I noticed this dodging pattern a lot more. E.g enemy is low on health and you expect them to run to the health pack but the keep faking that they're going to go to it but actually don't then they somehow kill me even though I had a bigger stack. But I've since learned to be wary of that tactic lol.

a trick: watch series at Flixzone. Been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.

This applies to any game where you're not super limited mobility wise. You see this a lot in Team Fortress 2, especially from Spies, due to how hitboxes work in that game (you can backstab someone even if their back is not completely turned by strafing this way). Hell, this is even useful against AI in Skyrim lmao dodging arrows in epic fashion.

Played against Rapha last night for fun, and man he does this too, I hate it when players do this. The pace is so fast, if you flick your rockets sometimes you don't see the player go back and forth so you think your rocket should hit or at least splash. You just get destroyed! Awesome video as always.

Holy shit, I noticed your 3rd fake in the first clip but wasn't even thinking about the other fakes. I thought that this only worked on bots but it's apparent that skilled dodges work on players too.

Saw this based on your tips #4 video, faking direction is basically juking. Still really fucking impressive though. :D Reminds me of feints from fighting games, Souls like games or even dodgeball and boxing irl. Good stuff. :)

The skill is real :) Hey Zy, what FOV do you play with? I'm 110 on UT, I even used to play with 120 but it can be tricky to land long range hitscan shoots cuz everything's so small

Yeah 110 for me in Quake as well... but I think it's different for each game.

In ANY games when the biomechanics are good enough you enter the MIND-FIELD territory. That's also why I still enjoy CS1.6. In pubs if you get a 5K strike and there is still peoples on the other team they start to freak out.

Perhaps you can create an advanced how to dodge and aim at the same time for QC. Or an advanced how customize your own mouse settings like a pro; pro players all have there own personal settings; however, average Quakers tend to copy their settings and don't have a clue how to create their own.

the fastest way to learn this movement is play tf2 mge in the arena: ammomod mge. i played in tf2 alot of 1 v 1 based on movement and when i got into quake i could dodge every rocket from the beginning. in quake its way easier to dodge a rocket then in tf2 due to the high movement speed and low rocket splash. in tf2 you really had to trick someone to shoot into a obvious spot. in quake you can just change direction a split second before someone shoots and go sideways.

Sanjeet Jain He has a Clan Arena playlist that is way more than settings. It teaches you basically everything, all you need besides those videos is experience.

any tips on how to execute it and not be obvious when doing so? I always take a rocket to the face anytime I attempt this.

Just something you have to learn by playing a lot really. Made the video to point out it can be done and is something to be aware of, even from the other side where you have to hit someone doing this. But it's not something that can really be taught or learned through tips. Just have to keep playing.

See I would of pulled out the gauntlet as that player seems to rush. One pummel bonk then switch back to an rj into some crazy angle.

I wish i could play quake but there is absolutely no servers in South America to play with, and if there is, i can't play well cuz i'm not used to the mechanics of the game like most players are ;-;

He is using 1000 Hz, and 2000 DPI on a 1440p monitor.

Just like a lot of rails DID hit but missed, because Quake Live net code has some issues. Your brain adjusts to aim where you have to though so it all works out. Kind of.

He's a troll, don't worry about him. A lot of players think that CA takes no skill, and it only matters if you duel. Funny thing is, most high level duelers don't do very well in CA.

Well that's really far from true, maybe at your elo range no one does well, come over to our server with 2200-2400 elo players and see how well they do lol. But I guess if you're not in NA then it won't work that well for you.
