This video deserves total respect. Its clips are from the fights of the top players of ultimate skills in the world, not usual frag movies made up with random frags of killing noobs. When clicking the video, I didn't expect I'd finish the video because I thought 21 minutes was quite long... until I came back to my sense after 21 minutes!

Incredible video. Quake has laid the foundation of e-sports and hopefully the current, marque game titles (i.e. League of Legends) and its players, at the very least, recognize this fact. Anyone with a true understanding of e-sports and its history always respects Quake's rich, storied legacy. 19:43 And thank you very much for crediting us for our footage as well. What majority of people on KZfaq fail to do so appreciate that very much.

A triny tiny tiny bit to many effects but this is a locked in 10//10 movie. Used to play since early days and remember all the old players from various gmaes I've played with/against them and it is so nostalgic to see their names again. Great work

Quake takes herculean levels of concentration and skill so what I love about it is just how EVIDENT it is in the play. You don't need to know anything about the game and still you can see how terrifying and exciting it is to face these guys and see what they do. I truly hope that quake never dies. It's funny they put that in the end about Quake not dying but the name of the video is "memorial" as if it has died :P

the sad part is KZfaq compression and 30fps limit rapes the smoothness of movement in Quake movies.. you should download the full version to appreciate the insane movement/aim precision in these highlights

agggggggh This really makes me want to get really into the Quake Live scene! It seems like such a tense, intelligent game. But, the meta is so evolved now and the people so practiced I find it difficult to even get that much into without getting decimated every turn. Seems like a hell of a lot of fun, though.

Yes, it is very difficult to get into it. Duels and CTFs are practically unenterable but the rest is sort of fine. Takes a lot of practice though.

Plus, the fact that since it moved to Steam very few servers have a good enough ping to play on. So many new users. Seems like many of the servers can't handle it. I try to practice on bigger servers but I get a connection interruption every 5 seconds. Many new users are having this problem. :/

I always enjoyed watching quake more than playing it. It's too intense and too addictive for me, but watching the top players play while being commented on by great shoutcasters like Joe or 2gd was just awesome. Probably one of the most exciting "e-sports" to watch.

Considering quakecon '96 was the first quake(quake 1) tournament. And Starcraft the original without brood war came out in March 31, 1998. I'd be more likely to say SF2 was probably the first major e-sport,considering there were national tournaments in the US and in Japan. Quake would be the first in terms of PC e-sports.

no. the face-it team will give you a highlight movie for that event. im busy working on my last quake movie for now, which comes in august. maybe in a couple of years when there is enough content (hopefully) - for me i will make a new installment in the memorial series.
