Yes indeed. To be honest, I've never been able to afford a w7. I've installed a bunch for customers that were super happy with them. I could never make enough in the install by where I was to swing 1k+. So my experience is solely as an installer with them.

I had 3 W6s for over 10 years still sounded great did have to replace the foam because they were the old design and they were weathered but the new ones are built even better more solid imo

Take a good look at incriminator audio, the death penalty is an absolute monster and is VERY accurite, put it in the right box itll dig way deep and stay nice and clean

I run an RS platinum 15 and can safely say the w7 will walk all over my RS on Sq hands down and just about as loud... there's no comparison.

I know people with w7s that are 10 years old and still holding strong(as well as 13 year old slash series JL amps). I also see about 6-10 blown skar speakers a month *(for example)* thank you for commenting.

@KBeric Ya, skar subs suck. Lol. JL has some solid amps for sure, I know lot of guys still bumping on them. I have had 4 Rockford t2500s since 2011 still kicking strong, had them paired the old school hx2s then with 4 Sundown X v1s for almost 10 years, then upgraded to Sundown Zv5s. I will admit though Sundown does lack bass accuracy when it comes to jamming rock etc. I'm one those lows lovers, but I fully respect the stuff JL has done and their sound quality is top-notch.

​@@BericBuilds seeing that many blown $70-$150 skars is normal. The skar is meant to be blown. It is the weakest link in order to save the rest of the system. It also vibrates if you put put it in a box. The w7 and wolfram however, those are subwoofers why the hell would you blow them they're not cheap??

The W6's from the 90's were my favorite but when you find out what makes it sound that way and know we were overpaying now reveals thw Wizard behind the curtain.

The guys on the internet will never understand that experience, and I've seen so many happy customers that never had to come back one single time, and that's why I have so much respect for JL Audio. JBL has always made some great products.. not to mention they get a lot of contracts with car manufacturers... that says something no doubt.

That JBL in the world champion car probably never seen more that 200 watts though in SQ you don't want your subwoofer to sound like it's behind you he runs in low, and I haven't been in that car, but I bet you can't tell where the base is coming from. I like JL I've had several from W0, W3, and currently 3 10-W6D4's on 3 audio control lc-1500s a custom box I built, I have way too much power got my gains at 25% and had to turn up my subsonic filter so they wouldn't pop so thinking about some Digital Designs Redline 700D series I think they look almost like the W7 motor and basket structure but better in ways and they kill the JL on paper and have way better cooling and can take my amps power. ALSO I can get 3 of them for a little over the price of 1 JL I have a feeling I wont be going back to JL I wish that they would make a higher class subwoofer line that can take power and is leaning more SPL/SQ they just played out the W7's it's been 22 years already..........

@@veelink6345 he runs a LFE solely based setup, it's on about 600w RMS and it sounds like it's blended in with the front sound stage but I think that's an important criteria of a subwoofer on how the phase properties are mounted in certain locations with respect to time alignment

@@veelink6345 check out B2 Audio. They are similar in price to DDs and even less mechanical noise. Silent in free air operation. They are one of those brands that lurk in the shadows but sound amazing. There is a video of an enclosure builder demoing the lack of mechanical noise of their subs. KZfaq it. It's quite impressive.

@@markfrederick5012Fi Car audio offers similar sound quality to JL W7 for less than half the prices. The Fi Neo 3.5 is just as good as a W7 in terms of SQ but they are tonally different just like comparing the Morel Elate component speakers with JL C7 component speakers.

@@ederreyes3612 The TC Sounds LMT prototypes (15" w/ 48mm xmax) and custom 3HP/4HP were amazing. The DD 9917a was great too, but it was much more of a PA speaker with ridiculous power handling. All that being said, I do have a W7 as a beater and enjoy it.

They are expensive... but you should look up their home theater subwoofers and then realize that they last a LOT longer than all the China designs.

Sundown is where it's at.

A Fi Q,Adire Brahma X,zv5,or IA DP absolutely walks on the W7. But those are modern subs vs a 22 year old platform.

Most w7's I've heard was 4 13w7's on a Fosgate T4000-1. They were in a F250 back seat wall. Smashed. I love what just a single w7 or a pair of w6s can do for a daily driver

From my experience as an installer the w6/w7 are both *great* in the SQ and efficiency department. It's funny because the sundown/skar/cookie cutter guys just can't wrap their heads around it.. it shows in the comments. I appreciate you watching and sharing bro

You are correct in many ways. You dont buy W7 to enter either SQ or SPL competitions. It's not a new thing for people to go SPL. For many that's all they ever cared about. It's always been like that. The W7 bridges the gap, it is a SQ speaker but it also has SPL. For the none competitions guy It's the best of both.

Sure, but all of us rocking W7's back in the day, are old enough now that it's a SQ and only SQ game. SPL is like going to the club, get's old and you stop doin it.

That's not SQ. SQ is the ability to replicate music like it was originally recorded... which means covering all of the bass notes.. not just 50 and under. 50 and under isn't musical at all compared to a quality built and designed system.

@@BericBuilds mechanical noise is almost 100% of the time never heard when played in a box. When your a bass head you have the subs in a box. So that's not much importance. I've never heard any sound out of my sundown zv5 18"s.

I've always loved Fosgate. I would love to work with them on a project. I used to run power series T3002 on memphis mojos at the shop I was at in the early 2000's. Always had respect for Fosgate

There are a ton of subs out there that I've owned/installed/like. I've actually never owned a w7... couldn't afford it.. but the customers I install them for absolutely love them. And they last *FOREVER* .. unlike many current manufacturers

I'm currently sitting on 2 separate competition level sound systems just waiting for installation. Unfortunately both trucks that were going to be used, were totalled in the last 6 months. A 05 gmc sierra hd2500 slt crew cab(modified lly duramax), and a 2020 for ranger crew cab. Bad hit indeed.

@Beric Builds right on I've definitely never heard a bad thing about JL audio subs or equipment. Except for the cost lol. I have a Orion HCCA 152 with a spare recone kit. That's my old sub. It's just laying around. Then I bought a sundown audio x15 v2 like 2 years ago. Haven't got to install it yet but definitely looking forward to hearing it with the Orion xtr2500.1d amplifier I was pushing the hcca sub with. I'm hoping to get lower.

@@markmmm1737 no, I'm sure. You can read about it. The RF power series is the same way. They call their T2 & T3 a 16 & 19 in sub, but it's only measured on the cone excluding the surround. All other maker's measure the surround included. So in reality the 16 is actually over 18" and the 19 is definitely a true 21! JL is the same way with their W7 series. The 13 is really over 15" and the 12 is around 15.

Unless when you say bigger cone are you talking about the overall surface area being increased by having a taller cone? Even when you have a longer cone, it eventually defeats the purpose of having greater surface area if the angle is too steep of a grade. It's the same reason they don't make cones that look like a funnel or a snow cone.

I love focal except for the fact the have been using unwoven tinsel leads for a while and I've seen a few pop and need to be repaired. I'm not a fan of unwoven but they do sound good.

I had 2 Memphis 12's ported in a SPL comp in the early 2000s, got beat by 1 decibel by 3 10w7s.. I was jealous of his system as well.. being that I worked at a shop that sold JL, I knew he paid almost triple the $ than I did. But if you read the comments there are so many haters just because of the price tag.

@@TheSighphiguy I never said one was superior to the other. I said I would be willing to put them side by side with the JL for comparison. I’ve heard numerous people in the SQ community say both of the mentioned subs are on the same level or better than the JL for a fraction of the price.
