@@ETMONEY I still have a questions about quant funds. Do they have an automatic algo based system to purchase and sell the stocks? How do they choose sectors? Do they hedge the fund? Can they diversify in non equity instruments like debt?

@@niansh Here's a quick answer that applies to most quant funds, if not all. They use algos to shortlist stocks. The final buy order is punched by a human. The same holds when they sell stocks. First, the algo selects stocks. When deciding the weight of each stock in the portfolio, there could be rules that cap the sector weights. Most don't use F&O in quant funds. All equity funds keep some portion of debt for various reasons. For example, it could be to manage inflows and outflows or to deploy the dividends received. Fund managers can also invest in debt if they believe equities are overpriced.
