Thanks for interviews such as this. I am an electrical engineering graduate and also did PGCE but my heart and soul are in mathematics as a career…..I’m enrolled at Unisa for Bsc in applied mathematics and statistics. I want to become a quant or a financial engineer in future……these interviews enthuse us with hope that in turn makes us committed to our true goals.

Thank you Thato. Give it a short. I know some engineers who are data scientists, so I think as an engineer it can also be easy to transition to the quant role.

Good one Mr Ben 😅🔥 UJ actually has a degree for Quantitative Finance and UP unlike in some universities one has to do a degree that majors in both mathematics and economics

I think when it comes to vacation work it is important because it can help one when it comes to learning certain things like the jargon/lingo used in that industry 😅....also in the previous interviews mr ben had with a chemical engineer he mentioned that vac work helps alot when it comes to such and it will give one an advantage when it comes to grad programs This interview is eye opening. Mr Ben where do we get to send questions that we have ?

Well said Mfundo. For questions, usually a few days before I host any guest I make a post about the guest and invite subscribers to send through questions for the guest. To see the post you go to my channel and then click on "community". If you're a subscriber you get a notification when a post is posted.

whats the difference between a quant and an actuary ?

Hi Tendayi, I'm not the most qualified person to answer this since I'm not in those fields, hopefully if there's someone from those fields who sees your comment then they will explain. In my little understanding and the conversations I have heard on the channel, Quants are mainly in banking, building mathematical models for banks to quantify risk whereas Actuaries use mathematical skills to measure uncertainty and cash flow in financial markets such as in insurance, etc.
